Considere un miembro estructural que tiene un sistema de varias fuerzas y momentos de acoplamiento.
Para mover la fuerza a un punto O que no esté en la línea de acción de la fuerza, se añade un par con un momento igual al momento de la fuerza alrededor de O.
Según el principio de transmisibilidad, una fuerza que actúa sobre un cuerpo es un vector deslizante que se puede aplicar en cualquier punto a lo largo de su línea de acción.
Dado que un momento de pareja es un vector libre, se puede mover directamente al punto O.
La fuerza resultante es igual a la suma de todas las fuerzas y es independiente de la ubicación del punto.
El momento de pareja resultante es igual a la suma de todos los momentos de pareja y los momentos de las fuerzas alrededor del punto O y depende de la ubicación del punto.

Simplificar estos sistemas puede hacer que el análisis sea más manejable y más fácil de entender. Un enfoque para lograr esta simplificación es moviendo una fuerza a un punto O que no se encuentre en su línea de acción y añadiendo una par con un momento igual al momento de la fuerza alrededor del punto O. El principio de transmisibilidad juega un papel crucial en este proceso. Structural systems often experience several forces and couple moments at the same time. Engineers simplify these loading cases by replacing them with an equivalent force and moment system at a chosen point O. This makes the analysis easier while keeping the same external effects on the member.

A key idea in this process is the principle of transmissibility. A force is a sliding vector, which means it can be moved anywhere along its line of action without changing how the body behaves externally. A couple moment is a free vector, so it can be shifted directly to point O without changing the system’s external effects.

To build the equivalent system at point O, the resultant force is found by adding all the forces. This resultant force does not depend on where point O is located. The resultant couple moment does depend on point O, and it equals the sum of all couple moments plus the moments of the forces about point O.

This same method works for any number of forces, force components, and couple moments. The final force and couple moment at point O produce the same external effects as the original loading system. By combining forces and moments in this way, engineers can analyze complex structures more efficiently and predict how they will behave under loading conditions.
