En mecánica, un sistema de fuerza coplanar experimenta diferentes tipos de reacciones entre el punto de contacto y los soportes.
El soporte evita el movimiento de traslación del sistema mediante la aplicación de una fuerza igual y opuesta. También evita la rotación del sistema aplicando un par de momentos en la dirección opuesta.
El soporte de rodillo permite que la estructura se traslade en una sola dirección. La reacción en el soporte del rodillo será una sola fuerza que actuará de forma normal al soporte.
Un soporte de pasador solo permite la rotación de la viga, restringiendo su movimiento de traslación. Produce una reacción a la fuerza aplicada en el plano perpendicular al eje del pasador. Esta fuerza puede resolverse en sus componentes rectangulares.
El soporte fijo impide que la estructura se traslade y gire en cualquier dirección al proporcionar dos fuerzas de reacción y un momento a cualquier fuerza aplicada. La fuerza Fx actúa en dirección horizontal a lo largo del eje del soporte, mientras queF y actúa normal al soporte.

Types of structural supports control how a coplanar force system moves and reacts under load. A coplanar force system is a set of forces that all lie in the same plane. The supports create reactions at the point of contact. These reactions help keep a structure stable under external forces.

Supports work by stopping translation with an equal and opposite force. They can also stop rotation by applying a couple moment in the opposite direction. In structural design, these reactions are important for safe and reliable systems. They help structures resist loads without unwanted motion.

There are three main support types: roller support, pin support, and fixed support. A roller support allows translation in only one direction. It provides a single reaction force normal to its surface. This support is useful where movement must still happen in a controlled way, such as in bridges that expand or contract with temperature changes.

A pin support provides a reaction force in the plane perpendicular to its axis when force is applied. It permits rotation but restricts translational motion. This makes it useful for structures with cantilevers or with uniform loading conditions along their length. A fixed support prevents both translation and rotation. It provides two reaction forces and a moment, so it is often used in buildings where high stability is needed.
