Se diseñará una viga de madera simplemente apoyada para soportar una carga distribuida. Se conocen la longitud y el ancho de la viga, junto con los valores de tensión normales permitidos. Es necesario determinar la profundidad de la viga.
Para resolver esto, se considera toda la viga como un cuerpo libre, y se escriben los balances de momento y fuerza para determinar las reacciones en los soportes.
A continuación, se dibujan los diagramas de fuerza cortante y momento flector de la viga. El valor del momento de flexión es cero en ambos extremos.
El valor máximo absoluto del momento de flexión se determina considerando el área bajo la curva de corte.
El módulo de sección mínimo permitido ahora se calcula utilizando el valor absoluto del momento flector y la tensión admisible dada.
La profundidad mínima requerida en la viga de madera se determina finalmente utilizando la relación entre las dimensiones de la viga y el módulo de sección mínimo permitido.
Esta profundidad es la mínima necesaria para garantizar que la viga pueda soportar con seguridad las cargas impuestas sin exceder la tensión permitida.
