Un diodo ideal es un elemento de circuito no lineal con el ánodo como terminal positivo y el cátodo como terminal negativo.
Cuando se aplica un voltaje negativo, no fluye corriente. Esto se denomina polarización inversa o corte, donde el diodo actúa como un circuito abierto.
Si se aplica un voltaje positivo, el diodo se comporta como un cortocircuito con caída de voltaje cero. Este estado se denomina sesgo hacia adelante o activado.
El diodo ideal exhibe características I-V lineales por partes con dos segmentos en línea recta a 90 grados entre sí.
A diferencia de los diodos ideales, los diodos prácticos exhiben una pequeña caída de voltaje con polarización directa y una corriente de fuga con polarización inversa distinta de cero.
El diodo ideal utilizado en los circuitos rectificadores convierte la CA en CC. Durante los semiciclos positivos de la sinusoide de entrada, el diodo conduce y el voltaje de salida es igual al voltaje de entrada.
Durante los semiciclos negativos, el diodo no conduce, lo que resulta en un voltaje de salida cero.
Por lo tanto, el voltaje de salida rectificado es unidireccional y tiene un valor promedio finito o un componente de CC.

The Ideal Diode

An ideal diode is a simple model of a semiconductor diode used to show how current moves through circuits. A diode has two terminals. The anode is positive, and the cathode is negative. In this model, current can flow only in one direction.

When a positive voltage is applied to the anode relative to the cathode, the diode is forward-biased. In that state, it conducts current. When the cathode is at a higher potential than the anode, the diode is reverse-biased. It then blocks current and acts like an open switch.

The ideal diode is shown with a piecewise linear I-V curve, or current-voltage curve. One part is a vertical line that shows current flow during forward bias. The other part is a horizontal line that shows no current flow during reverse bias. This sharp change leaves out the gradual curve seen in real diodes. It also ignores the voltage drop in forward bias and the small leakage current in reverse bias.

This simplified model is useful for circuit analysis, especially in rectifier circuits that change AC into DC. During the positive part of an AC cycle, the ideal diode conducts and the output voltage matches the input. During the negative part, it blocks current and the output drops to zero. The result is a DC output that many electronic devices need for steady power.
