Los ceros reales de un polinomio son los valores de entrada para los cuales el polinomio es igual a cero. Los ceros racionales son un subconjunto de ceros reales que se pueden expresar como una razón de dos números enteros.El teorema de los ceros racionales establece que en un polinomio con coeficientes enteros, cualquier cero racional debe ser una fracción p sobre q, donde p divide el término constante y q divide el coeficiente principal.El teorema de los ceros racionales identifica los posibles ceros racionales dividiendo los factores del término constante, que son los números que dividen uniformemente la constante, por los factores del coeficiente de la variable con la potencia más alta.Estos posibles valores se prueban mediante división sintética, donde los coeficientes del polinomio se dividen por cada cero real candidato. Un resto distinto de cero significa que el valor no es un cero del polinomio. Un residuo cero confirma un cero real.En el diseño de empaques, el volumen de una caja se puede modelar mediante un polinomio en términos de tamaño de corte. Establecer este polinomio igual a un volumen objetivo y reorganizar da una nueva ecuación igual a cero. Los ceros reales representan los tamaños de corte que logran la capacidad deseada sin desperdiciar material.

Polynomials can be analyzed by finding their real zeros, which are the values of x that make the polynomial equal to zero. These points are also the x-intercepts of the graph. Understanding them helps students see where a polynomial crosses the x-axis.

The Rational Zeros Theorem gives a list of possible rational solutions for a polynomial with integer coefficients. If f(x)=anx^n+...+a0, then every rational zero has the form p/q. In that form, p divides the constant term a0 and q divides the leading coefficient an. The theorem does not prove that each candidate is a zero, but it does give a finite set of rational numbers to test.

Synthetic division is used to check whether a candidate value is a zero. If the remainder is zero, then the value is a real zero of the polynomial.
