Spatial Cueing

1. matériel

3. exécution de l’expérience

	<li>Pour exécuter l’expérience, recruter 10 à 20 personnes.</li>
	<li>Lorsqu’un participant arrive dans le laboratoire, expliquent que l’expérience qu’ils vont faire vise à étudier la nature de l’attention visuelle et leur demander de remplir une entente de consentement éclairé.</li>

	<li>Expliquer les instructions pour eux en détail :<ol>
		<li>« Chaque essai de cette expérience sera plus ou moins le même. Vous verrez une fixation rouge croix au début de chaque essai. Il est important que vous gardez vos yeux fixés à cette position en permanence. Après 100 ms, la fixation de Croix sera remplacée par une flèche rouge pointant vers une des deux cases vertes qui seront aussi présente à l’écran. Enfin, après 100 ms, la flèche disparaît et une lettre s’affiche dans l’une des deux cases. Il sera toujours un L ou un T, et votre travail consiste à déclarer que celle qu’il utilise la clé appropriée. Nous voulons que vous fassiez un keypress aussi rapidement que possible, sans sacrifier la précision, donc c’est une bonne idée de garder votre index droit sur la clé de L et de votre index gauche sur la touche T en tout temps. Après avoir apporté une réponse, il y aura un demi-seconde de retard avant le début de l’essai suivant. Notez que la flèche rouge ne se pointera pas toujours à l’endroit où la lettre apparaîtra par la suite. Vous ferez 400 essais de l’expérience, qui devrait prendre environ 5 à 10 minutes. 			<li>Excel (ou autre logiciel) est capable de déterminer automatiquement si les réponses sont correctes en introduisant la formule suivante dans la nouvelle colonne intitulée exactitude : = Si ("Lettre Type" = "Réponse donnée", 1, 0) cela signifie que si le caractère dans la colonne de Type de lettre est le même que celui de la colonne de la réponse donnée, il y aura un 1 dans la colonne de précision. Attention se réfère à la capacité humaine limitée pour sélectionner quelques informations pour le traitement au détriment des autres stimuli dans l’environnement. Attention opère dans toutes les modalités sensorielles : vision, audition, toucher, même goût et odeur. Il est le plus souvent étudié dans le domaine visuel bien. Un moyen courant pour étudier l’attention visuelle est un paradigme de repérage spatial. Ce paradigme permet aux chercheurs de mesurer les conséquences de la mise au point d’attention visuelle dans certains endroits et pas d’autres. Ce paradigme a été développé par le psychologue Michael Posner dans la fin des années 70 et début des années 80 dans une série de documents dans lequel il comparait l’attention à un coup de projecteur, sélectivement illuminant une partie d’une scène. 1, 2 , cette vidéo montre comment des procédures standard pour une expérience de repérage spatial pour étudier l’attention visuelle.

La figure 4 montre la moyenne des temps de réaction pour un groupe de participants, en comparant les essais congrus et incongrues. En préparation de l’expérience, ouvrez le logiciel et vérifiez que le paradigme de repérage spatial fonctionne correctement. Après avoir recruté les participants, amenez chacun d’entre eux dans le laboratoire et expliquez que la tâche est conçue pour étudier la nature de l’attention visuelle. Avant de poursuivre, demandez-leur de remplir un formulaire de consentement éclairé. Pour commencer, placez le participant devant l’ordinateur de test, le dossier de sa chaise à 60 cm de l’écran. Expliquez les instructions de la tâche et répondez à toutes les questions. Lorsque le participant est prêt, permettez-lui de démarrer le programme en appuyant sur la barre d’espace. Observez-les pendant quelques essais pour vous assurer qu’ils appuient sur la touche « L » ou « T » dès que la lettre apparaît à l’écran. Quittez la salle de test pendant qu’ils terminent les 400 essais. À mi-chemin de l’expérience, prévoyez une pause de 2 minutes, ce qui porte la durée totale de la tâche à moins de 10 min. Pour commencer l’analyse des données, récupérez d’abord les données capturées qui ont été initialement programmées dans un fichier de sortie. Pour remplir cette colonne, créez une formule pour comparer le « Type de lettre » avec la « Réponse donnée », de sorte qu’un 1 représente une réponse correcte et 0 indique une réponse incorrecte. Vérifiez maintenant que les valeurs de précision moyennes totales pour chaque participant sont supérieures à 0,8 pour vous assurer que les participants ont compris les instructions de la tâche. Pour visualiser les données, représentez graphiquement les temps de réaction moyens des participants par type d’essai. Notez qu’ils ont répondu environ 200 ms plus rapidement dans les essais congruents par rapport aux essais incongrus. De plus, comme vous l’avez déjà appris, l’inclusion d’indices dans la tâche conduit à des pensées anticipatives sur l’endroit où concentrer l’attention, même si ces attentes peuvent ne pas être satisfaites. Les chercheurs ont adapté le paradigme pour identifier les types de stimuli, comme les éclairs lumineux inattendus, qui peuvent automatiquement provoquer un déplacement de l’attention. De telles modifications pourraient bénéficier aux personnes qui peuvent avoir du mal à se concentrer sous des exigences contraintes, comme celles atteintes de trouble déficitaire de l’attention avec hyperactivité. Visual attention is the limited ability to focus on some information while ignoring other stimuli in the environment. It is studied in many senses, including vision, hearing, touch, taste, and smell. Researchers most often examine it in vision because it is easy to test with controlled displays.

A common method is the spatial cueing paradigm. In this task, a cue appears to guide attention toward one location, and researchers measure what happens when attention is focused there instead of elsewhere. The method helps show the effects of directing visual attention to some places and not others.

The spatial cueing approach was developed by psychologist Michael Posner in the late 1970s and early 1980s. In his papers, he described attention as a spotlight that selectively lights up part of a scene. The procedure shown here demonstrates the standard steps used in a spatial cueing experiment to study visual attention.
