Positive, Negative, and Zero Work

Le travail effectué par une force constante est égal à l’intégrale de la force par rapport au déplacement le long de la trajectoire du déplacement.
Selon la direction de la force appliquée par rapport au déplacement, le travail effectué peut être positif, négatif ou nul. Par exemple, lorsqu’une personne pousse une boîte sur un plan oblique, la force appliquée et le déplacement agissent dans la même direction. Ainsi, le travail effectué par la force appliquée est positif.
Lorsque le même bloc glisse vers l’arrière, la force appliquée agit à l’opposé du déplacement. Par conséquent, le travail effectué est négatif.
Considérons une personne portant une boîte et se déplaçant horizontalement, ici le travail effectué par la personne est nul puisque l’angle entre la force et le vecteur déplacement est de 90 degrés.
Le travail effectué est maximal lorsque l’angle entre la force et le vecteur déplacement est nul ou 180 degrés.

Par définition, le travail effectué par une force est l'intégrale de la force par rapport au déplacement le long de sa trajectoire. Les forces peuvent varier en fonction de la position, et les déplacements peuvent se produire le long de différentes trajectoires entre deux points. La magnitude d'une force multipliée par le cosinus de l'angle que la force forme avec une direction donnée est la composante de la force dans cette direction.

Les composantes d'un vecteur peuvent être positives, négatives ou nulles, en fonction de si l'angle entre le vecteur et la direction de la composante est compris entre 0° et 90°, entre 90° et 180°, ou égal à 90°, respectivement. Par conséquent, le travail effectué par une force peut être positif, négatif ou nul, en fonction de si la force est généralement dans la direction du déplacement, opposée au déplacement ou perpendiculaire au déplacement, respectivement. Work in physics depends on the direction of a force and the way an object moves. Work is done when energy is transferred to an object. It happens when a force acts on a body that moves from one position to another.

The work done by a force is defined as the integral of the force with respect to displacement along the path. Forces can change with position, and an object can move along different paths between the same two points. In vector form, the size of a force times the cosine of the angle it makes with a chosen direction gives the component of that force in that direction.

That angle helps determine whether work is positive, negative, or zero. A component is positive when the angle is between 0° and 90°, negative when it is between 90° and 180°, and zero when the angle is 90°. So a force does positive work when it is generally in the same direction as the displacement, negative work when it points opposite the displacement, and zero work when it is perpendicular to the displacement.

The greatest work from a given force occurs when the force is aligned with the displacement. In that case, the force acts directly along the motion of the object. This idea connects force direction, displacement, and energy transfer in a clear way.
