Les titrages potentiométriques déterminent la concentration d’un analyte en mesurant la différence de potentiel entre l’électrode de référence et l’électrode indicatrice dans la solution après l’ajout du titrant.
Un changement soudain de la courbe de titrage, qui est obtenu en traçant les potentiels en fonction du volume du titrant, indique le point final du titrage.
De plus, le point final peut être identifié plus précisément à partir du maximum de la première courbe de dérivée ou du point zéro de la courbe de dérivée seconde.
Les titrages potentiométriques peuvent impliquer des réactions acide-base, par précipitation, complexométriques ou redox.
Les titrages acide-base utilisent généralement des électrodes de verre pour mesurer le pH, qui est tracé en fonction du volume du titrant pour identifier le point final.
Les titrages de précipitation mesurent le potentiel dérivé des changements de concentration de l’anion ou du cation dus à la précipitation avec une électrode sélective d’ions via l’équation de Nernst.
Les électrodes sélectives d’ions sont également utilisées dans les titrages complexométriques pour enregistrer le changement de concentration en ions métalliques en fonction de l’ajout de ligands complexants tels que l’EDTA.

Le titrage potentiométrique est une technique d'analyse quantitative qui détermine la concentration d'un analyte en mesurant la différence de potentiel entre les deux électrodes de la solution. Le point final d'un titrage potentiométrique est le point auquel il y a un changement significatif de la différence de potentiel. Il se produit lorsque la réaction stœchiométrique entre l'analyte et le titrant est terminée. Le point final est généralement déterminé graphiquement en traçant la différence de potentiel mesurée en fonction du volume de titrant ajouté. Le graphique obtenu est appelé courbe de titrage. Les courbes dérivées sont obtenues en traçant la dérivée de la courbe de titrage par rapport au volume de titrant ajouté. Elles permettent d'identifier le point final avec plus de précision. La courbe dérivée présente généralement un point maximum ou minimum au point final, ce qui permet une détermination plus précise du point final. Le titrage potentiométrique est très polyvalent et peut être utilisé pour les réactions acide-base, de précipitation, complexométriques ou redox. Les titrages acide-base utilisent généralement des électrodes en verre pour mesurer le pH par rapport au volume de titrant.

En revanche, les titrages par précipitation utilisent des électrodes sélectives d'ions conçues pour répondre de manière sélective à un ion particulier dans la solution. Les titrages redox, en revanche, utilisent des électrodes métalliques inertes comme le platine, et la courbe de titrage aide à sélectionner un indicateur visuel approprié pour le processus de titrage. Potentiometric titration is a quantitative analytical method used to find the concentration of an analyte by measuring the potential difference between two electrodes in a solution. The endpoint is the point where this potential changes sharply. It usually appears when the stoichiometric reaction between the analyte and the titrant is complete.

To find the endpoint, the measured potential difference is plotted against the volume of titrant added. This graph is called a titration curve. A derivative curve can also be made by plotting the change in the titration curve with respect to titrant volume. The endpoint is easier to spot on this curve because it often shows a maximum or minimum at that point.

This method is useful for several kinds of reactions, including acid-base, precipitation, complexometric, and redox titrations. Acid-base titrations often use glass electrodes to measure pH as titrant volume increases. Precipitation titrations use ion-selective electrodes that respond to a specific ion in the solution. Redox titrations use inert metal electrodes such as platinum, and the titration curve can help choose a suitable visual indicator. Complexometric titrations use ion-selective electrodes to track metal-ion concentration as EDTA is added.
