Work Done Over an Inclined Plane

Prenons l’exemple d’une personne qui descend une pente en ski. En supposant que la force due au frottement sur les skis est négligeable sur la glace, un schéma du corps libre peut être dessiné.
La composante de la force gravitationnelle le long du déplacement fait avancer la personne. Les forces perpendiculaires au déplacement n’ont aucun rôle dans le mouvement et, par conséquent, ne contribuent pas au travail effectué.
Ainsi, le travail effectué est simplement la composante de force parallèle multipliée par le déplacement.
Une autre façon de résoudre ce problème est de prendre le vecteur force au lieu de sa composante. 
Ici, l’angle entre la force et le déplacement est considéré. Notez que l’expression finale du travail effectué est la même.
Cependant, si le déplacement du skieur est dans la direction opposée de la force, de sorte qu’il commence et se termine au repos, alors le travail effectué est négatif.
Si l’angle du plan incliné est nul, la force est perpendiculaire au déplacement, donc le travail effectué par la force gravitationnelle sur la personne devient nul.

Le travail effectué par la gravité pour déplacer un corps rigide, ou le travail effectué par une force opposée pour déplacer un corps rigide contre la gravité, peut être calculé en utilisant le cadre du centre de masse. Il s'agit de l'intégrale de ligne de la force de gravité sur le chemin, considérée positive si la gravité augmente son énergie cinétique et négative si un travail est effectué contre la gravité pour le soulever, réduisant ainsi son énergie cinétique. Dans le cas d'un mouvement horizontal, le travail effectué par ou contre la gravité est nul. Autrement dit, la variation de l'énergie cinétique d'un corps, même si elle n'est pas nulle, est uniquement due à d'autres forces.

La formulation reste la même lorsque le corps se déplace sur un plan incliné. La seule différence est qu'une seule composante de la gravité est alignée avec le plan, et seule cette composante doit être prise en compte lors du calcul du travail effectué. La force gravitationnelle normale au plan ne fait aucun travail à aucun moment pendant le déplacement.

Gravity and work on sloped motion can be described with the center-of-mass framework. For a rigid body, internal forces do no work, so they can be ignored. The work-energy theorem then uses only the external forces.

The work done by gravity depends on the path of the body’s center of mass. If gravity helps increase kinetic energy, the work is positive. If an object is lifted against gravity, the work is negative because kinetic energy decreases.

For horizontal motion, the work done by or against gravity is zero. In that case, any change in kinetic energy comes from other forces. The same idea applies to motion over an inclined plane.

On a slope, only the component of gravity parallel to the plane contributes to work. The force perpendicular to the plane does no work during the motion. That is the key difference from horizontal motion and other straight paths.
