Prenons l’exemple d’une voiture équipée d’un régulateur de vitesse qui utilise un circuit d’ampli opérationnel pour maintenir une vitesse constante. Ce circuit utilise la fonction d’un amplificateur opérationnel en tant qu’intégrateur et différenciateur.
Un intégrateur et un différenciateur idéaux peuvent être créés à partir d’un circuit d’amplificateur opérationnel inverse en remplaçant les résistances de rétroaction et d’entrée par des condensateurs, respectivement.
Un intégrateur est un circuit d’ampli opérationnel qui génère une sortie proportionnelle à l’intégrale du signal d’entrée.
À l’inverse, un différenciateur produit une sortie proportionnelle au taux de variation du signal d’entrée.
En appliquant la loi de courant de Kirchhoff au nœud inverseur des deux circuits et en utilisant les expressions courant-tension pour la résistance et le condensateur, une équation reliant les tensions de sortie et d'entrée peut être dérivée.
En intégrant l'équation du circuit intégrateur des deux côtés et en supposant que le condensateur se décharge avant l'application du signal, l'expression finale démontre que la tension de sortie est proportionnelle à l'intégrale de l'entrée.
En revanche, pour le circuit différenciateur, la tension de sortie est proportionnelle à la dérivée du signal d’entrée.

Si les intégrateurs sont largement utilisés dans les ordinateurs analogiques et diverses applications, les différentiateurs sont moins courants en pratique en raison de leur tendance à amplifier le bruit électrique, ce qui les rend électroniquement instables.

Op-amp circuits are used in cruise control systems to help cars keep a constant speed. In these systems, operational amplifiers, or op-amps, can work as integrators and differentiators. Both circuits use resistors and capacitors, which makes them compact and cost-effective.

An integrator circuit produces an output that is proportional to the integral of the input signal. It is made by replacing the feedback resistor in a standard inverting amplifier with a capacitor. The output and input voltages can be related with Kirchhoff's current law and the current-voltage behavior of resistors and capacitors.

After integration, the equation shows that the output voltage matches the integral of the input signal. A differentiator circuit works in the opposite way. It produces an output proportional to the rate of change of the input signal by replacing the input resistor in a standard inverting amplifier with a capacitor.

The differentiator equation is also built with Kirchhoff's current law and current-voltage relations. In this case, the output voltage is proportional to the derivative of the input signal. Integrators are widely used in analog computers and other applications, while differentiators are less common because they can amplify electrical noise and become electronically unstable.
