Inversement, l’équation du mouvement d’une particule se déplaçant le long d’une trajectoire courbe connue peut être formulée en composantes cylindriques : radiale, azimutale et axiale, le long des directions respectives des vecteurs unitaires.
La direction axiale est perpendiculaire au plan formé par les directions radiale et azimutale.
Ici, la force le long de chaque composant donne l’accélération le long de ce composant particulier.
L’accélération de la particule le long de la composante radiale est la différence entre l’accélération de la particule le long des directions radiales et le produit du rayon et de la vitesse angulaire au carré.
L’accélération le long de la composante azimutale est la somme du produit du rayon et de l’accélération angulaire et du produit de la vitesse radiale et angulaire.
L’accélération le long de la direction axiale correspond à la variation de vitesse de la particule le long de l’axe vertical du système cylindrique.

Particle motion can be written in rectangular coordinates or cylindrical coordinates, depending on the path of the particle. In classical mechanics, the coordinate system you choose helps describe how a particle moves in an inertial frame.

When motion stays in the x-y plane, rectangular components are often enough. Using only x and y makes the equation easier to write and follow. This form works well for motion that does not need a third spatial direction.

Curved paths often call for cylindrical coordinates. This system uses radial, azimuthal, and axial components, and each one follows its own unit vector direction. The radial and azimuthal parts describe motion around the curved path, while the axial part adds the vertical dimension needed for three-dimensional motion.

In cylindrical coordinates, the force along each component determines the acceleration in that same direction. Radial acceleration depends on the particle’s radial motion and the product of its radius and angular velocity. Azimuthal acceleration combines radius, angular acceleration, radial motion, and angular velocity. Axial acceleration shows how the particle’s speed changes along the vertical axis.
