Une diode idéale est un élément de circuit non linéaire avec l’anode comme borne positive et la cathode comme borne négative.
Lorsqu’une tension négative est appliquée, aucun courant ne circule. C’est ce qu’on appelle la polarisation inverse ou coupure, où la diode agit comme un circuit ouvert.
Si une tension positive est appliquée, la diode se comporte comme un court-circuit avec une chute de tension nulle. Cet état est appelé orienté vers l’avant ou activé.
La diode idéale présente des caractéristiques I-V linéaires par morceaux avec deux segments en ligne droite à 90 degrés l’un par rapport à l’autre.
Contrairement aux diodes idéales, les diodes pratiques présentent une petite chute de tension à polarisation directe et un courant de fuite à polarisation inverse non nul.
La diode idéale utilisée dans les circuits redresseurs convertit le courant alternatif en courant continu. Pendant les demi-cycles positifs de la sinusoïde d’entrée, la diode conduit et la tension de sortie est égale à la tension d’entrée.
Pendant les demi-cycles négatifs, la diode ne conduit pas, ce qui entraîne une tension de sortie nulle.
Ainsi, la tension de sortie redressée est unidirectionnelle et a une valeur moyenne finie ou une composante CC.

Alors que les diodes réelles présentent une certaine chute de tension lorsqu'elles sont polarisées en direct et un minuscule courant de fuite lorsqu'elles sont polarisées en inverse, le modèle de diode idéal ignore ces aspects pour simplifier l'analyse du circuit. The Ideal Diode

An ideal diode is a simple model of a semiconductor diode used to show how current moves through circuits. A diode has two terminals. The anode is positive, and the cathode is negative. In this model, current can flow only in one direction.

When a positive voltage is applied to the anode relative to the cathode, the diode is forward-biased. In that state, it conducts current. When the cathode is at a higher potential than the anode, the diode is reverse-biased. It then blocks current and acts like an open switch.

The ideal diode is shown with a piecewise linear I-V curve, or current-voltage curve. One part is a vertical line that shows current flow during forward bias. The other part is a horizontal line that shows no current flow during reverse bias. This sharp change leaves out the gradual curve seen in real diodes. It also ignores the voltage drop in forward bias and the small leakage current in reverse bias.

This simplified model is useful for circuit analysis, especially in rectifier circuits that change AC into DC. During the positive part of an AC cycle, the ideal diode conducts and the output voltage matches the input. During the negative part, it blocks current and the output drops to zero. The result is a DC output that many electronic devices need for steady power.
