Un système est à entrée bornée, également connu sous le nom de BIBO stable si un signal d’entrée borné donné produit invariablement une sortie bornée. La figure illustre des exemples de systèmes stables et non stables en BIBO.
L’intégrale de convolution peut être utilisée pour évaluer la stabilité de BIBO lorsqu’une entrée limitée en temps continu est appliquée à un système linéaire invariant dans le temps.
La bornité du signal d’entrée peut être représentée par une constante, et les formulations intégrales de convolution déterminent la sortie bornée.
Si l’intégrande est finie, la sortie est finie, ce qui signifie qu’un système en temps continu avec une réponse impulsionnelle absolument intégrable est stable BIBO.
Ce même processus s’applique aux systèmes à temps discret ; une sortie bornée est obtenue par l’intégrale de convolution.
La sortie est finie si le terme de sommation a une valeur finie, indiquant qu’un système à temps discret est stable BIBO si sa réponse impulsionnelle est absolument sommable.

La stabilité d’un système est un concept fondamental dans le traitement du signal, souvent évalué à l'aide de la convolution. Pour qu'un système soit considéré comme stable à entrée et sortie bornées (BIBO), tout signal d'entrée borné doit produire un signal de sortie borné. Un signal d'entrée borné est un signal dont le module ne dépasse pas une certaine constante, peu importe le moment.

Pour déterminer la stabilité BIBO, l'intégrale de convolution est utilisée lorsqu'un signal d’entrée à temps continu borné est appliqué à un système invariant dans le temps linéaire (LTI). La limitation du signal d'entrée est représentée par une constante, et l'intégrale de convolution permet de déterminer si la sortie reste limitée. Mathématiquement, cela signifie que si l'intégrande de l'intégrale de convolution est finie, la sortie sera également finie. Plus précisément, un système à temps continu est BIBO stable si sa réponse impulsionnelle est intégrable, ce qui signifie que l'intégrale de la valeur absolue de la réponse impulsionnelle est finie et est représentée comme suit :

Le même principe s'applique aux systèmes à temps discret. La stabilité BIBO dans les systèmes à temps discret est déterminée par la somme de la série de convolution. Pour un système à temps discret, la sortie est finie si le terme de sommation a une valeur finie, ce qui indique que le système est stable au sens BIBO si sa réponse impulsionnelle est sommable comme indiqué dans l'expression ci-dessous.

En d'autres termes, si la somme des valeurs absolues de la réponse impulsionnelle est finie, le système produira une sortie bornée pour toute entrée bornée, confirmant ainsi la stabilité BIBO.

System stability in signal processing is often tested with convolution. A system is BIBO stable, or bounded-input bounded-output stable, when every bounded input signal produces a bounded output signal. A bounded input signal has a modulus that never exceeds a set constant at any time.

For a continuous-time Linear Time-Invariant, or LTI, system, BIBO stability is checked with the convolution integral. The input is bounded by a constant, and the convolution integral shows whether the output stays bounded too. If the integrand in the convolution integral remains finite, the output remains finite as well. A continuous-time system is BIBO stable when its impulse response is integrable, which means the integral of the absolute value of the impulse response is finite.

The same idea applies to discrete-time systems. Here, stability is checked through the convolution series rather than the convolution integral. A discrete-time system is BIBO stable if the summation is finite, which means its impulse response is summable. In other words, if the sum of the absolute values of the impulse response is finite, any bounded input will still produce a bounded output.

BIBO stability matters in real-world system design and analysis. It helps ensure that outputs stay within acceptable limits when inputs are bounded. Understanding convolution and impulse response conditions is key for studying stable continuous-time and discrete-time systems.
