Deux amis entrent dans un parc par des entrées différentes et s’arrêtent à différents coins d’un champ.De leurs positions respectives, ils veulent déterminer la distance exacte qui les sépare.La formule de la distance est appliquée pour calculer la distance entre les deux positions, marquées par les points A et B, à l’aide de leurs coordonnées.Il trouve le chemin le plus court entre eux, comme couper en diagonale à travers un champ au lieu de marcher sur les bords.Ce calcul est basé sur le théorème de Pythagore, où les distances horizontales et verticales se rencontrent au point C, formant un triangle rectangle.Le théorème stipule que le carré de l’hypoténuse, ou le côté diagonal, est égal à la somme des carrés des deux autres côtés.Sur une grille de coordonnées, ces côtés représentent les différences entre les valeurs x et y entre les points A et B.En mettant au carré les différences horizontales et verticales, en les additionnant et en prenant la racine carrée, la longueur de l’hypoténuse est déterminée.Cette relation donne la distance en ligne droite entre les deux amis.Ces calculs sont également utilisés pour cartographier les itinéraires et planifier la couverture du réseau sans fil.
