La résolution graphique d’équations implique de sélectionner des valeurs x, de calculer les valeurs y correspondantes à partir de l’équation et de tracer ces points sur un plan de coordonnées pour dessiner le graphique.Les solutions de l’équation sont les valeurs x où le graphique coupe l’axe x, car ces points montrent où l’équation est égale à zéro.Cette méthode est également utile pour résoudre des équations du second degré. Le nombre de fois que la courbe graphique d’une équation du second degré touche ou croise l’axe des x indique le nombre de solutions réelles de l’équation.Si ce n’est pas du tout le cas, il n’y a pas de vraies solutions.Pour résoudre une équation dans un intervalle spécifique de valeurs x, le graphique est limité aux valeurs x dans cet intervalle.Seules les intersections x à l’intérieur de cet intervalle sont considérées comme des solutions valides.Pour résoudre graphiquement un système de deux équations, les deux équations sont tracées. Le point d’intersection des deux graphes donne la solution qui satisfait les deux équations.En affaires, le coût total et le revenu total sont comparés aux unités vendues. Leurs graphiques se croisent au seuil de rentabilité, c’est-à-dire que le revenu est égal au coût pour un nombre spécifique d’unités.
