הרגע הוא הנטייה של גוף להסתובב סביב נקודה או ציר כאשר מופעל עליו כוח.
כוחות המופעלים על גוף ואינם עוברים דרך הצנטרויד יוצרים מומנטים; הסכום הווקטורי של כל הרגעים הללו הפועלים על גוף ידוע כמומנט המתקבל.
חשבו על שני טרקטורים שמושכים את המוט כדי להוריד אותו. כאן, שני כוחות פועלים על הקוטב, F1 בנקודה A ו- F2 בנקודה B. כוחות אלה באים לידי ביטוי בצורה הווקטורית הקרטזית.
כוחות אלה פועלים במרחקים rA ו- rB מנקודת הייחוס O.
ניתן לחשב את המומנט של כוחות אלה באמצעות המכפלה הצולבת של הכוח והמרחק הניצב מנקודת הייחוס.

 כאשר מופעל כוח על עצם, הנטייה של האובייקט להסתובב סביב נקודה ידועה בתור המומנט שלו. אם כוחות מרובים פועלים על עצם, סכום המומנטים של כל הכוחות הפועלים על גוף יכול לבוא לידי ביטוי כמומנט הנוצר של המערכת. הרגע המתקבל יכול להיחשב ככמות וקטורית שניתן להוסיף ולגרוע כמו כל וקטור אחר. 

 ניתן לחשב את המומנט הנוצר של מערכת כוחות באמצעות ניסוח וקטור. לדוגמה, אם ניקח בחשבון שני כוחות, F1 וF2, הפועלים על מוט בנקודות A ו-B, בהתאמה, ניתן לבטא את המומנט הנוצר של כוחות אלו כ

Resultant moment describes the total turning effect of multiple forces acting on an object. It shows how several forces can combine to make a body rotate about a point. In physics, moment is the tendency of a force to cause rotation.

The resultant moment of a force system is a vector quantity. That means it can be added and subtracted like other vectors. For a system with two forces, F1 and F2, acting on a pole at points A and B, the resultant moment is written as MR = (rA x F1) + (rB x F2). Here, rA and rB are position vectors from a fixed point to A and B.

The cross product r x F gives the moment of a force. It can also be written in determinant form. This vector form includes both the direction of the force and the point about which rotation occurs.

This method has practical uses in engineering and sports science. Engineers use it to find torque on machine parts such as gears, pulleys, and cranks. It is also used to calculate torques on joints during physical activity.
