תנועת קליע מתייחסת לנתיב של עצם המשוגר לאוויר, המושפע רק מכוח הכבידה. הזווית שבה הקליע משוגר נקראת זווית השיגור.
לתנועת הקליע שני מרכיבים עצמאיים - תנועה אופקית ואנכית.
ברגע שהקליע נמצא באוויר, אין כוחות אחרים שיכולים להאיץ אותו בכיוון האופקי.
ביישום משוואות הקינמטיקה בכיוון האופקי, המהירות האופקית של הקליע נשארת קבועה לאורך כל מעופו.
ניתן לתאר את כל התנועה בכיוון האופקי באמצעות משוואה אחת בלבד.
לעומת זאת, התנועה האנכית מושפעת רק מכוח הכבידה. באמצעות המשוואות הקינמטיות ניתן ללמוד את תנועת האובייקט בכיוון האנכי.
חישוב המרכיבים האופקיים והאנכיים של המהירות, ניתן למצוא את המהירות המתקבלת של האובייקט. המהירות המתקבלת תמיד משיקה לנתיב הקליע.
הטווח המרבי של הקליע תלוי במהירות ההתחלתית, בזווית השיגור ובתאוצה עקב כוח הכבידה.

תנועת קליעה מתגלה כאשר שחקן בועט בכדור לאוויר. זווית השיגור, או הזווית שבה הכדור נבעט, ממלאת תפקיד מכריע בקביעת מסלול הקליע. כשהכדור ממריא באוויר, מושפע מכוח הכבידה בלבד, ניתן לנתח את תנועתו לשני מרכיבי מהירות עצמאיים: אופקי ואנכי.

Projectile motion in a soccer kick shows how a ball travels through the air after it is launched. The launch angle, which is the angle of the kick, plays a major role in shaping the path of the ball. Once the ball is in the air, gravity is the only force acting on it.

The ball’s motion can be split into two independent velocity components: horizontal and vertical. The horizontal motion comes from the initial kick and stays at a constant velocity during the flight. Kinematics equations in the horizontal direction can describe that part of the motion with one equation.

The vertical motion is affected only by gravity. Kinematics equations for the vertical direction are used to analyze that part of the path. When the horizontal and vertical components of velocity are calculated, the result is the ball’s resultant velocity, which is always tangent to the projectile’s path.

The maximum range of the ball depends on the initial speed, launch angle, and the acceleration due to gravity. In soccer, this makes projectile motion a clear example of the physics that controls how a kicked ball moves through the air.
