Gravitational Potential Energy

L'energia potenziale gravitazionale è l'energia immagazzinata in un oggetto a causa della sua posizione nel campo gravitazionale.
Matematicamente, è definito come il prodotto del peso e dell'altezza di un oggetto dal suolo.
Quindi, l'energia potenziale gravitazionale di una palla di massa m appesa ad un'altezza y dal suolo è mgy.

L'energia potenziale non è solo una proprietà di ogni oggetto, ma anche una proprietà delle interazioni tra l'oggetto e un sistema scelto. Per ogni tipo di interazione presente in un sistema, c'è un'energia potenziale corrispondente. L'energia potenziale totale del sistema è la somma delle energie potenziali su tutti gli oggetti. L'energia potenziale può essere classificata in due macro categorie: energia potenziale gravitazionale ed energia potenziale elastica. L'energia potenziale associata al peso di un corpo e all'altezza dal suolo è chiamata energia potenziale gravitazionale.

La forza di gravità su ogni particella (o corpo) è semplicemente il suo peso mg vicino la superficie della terra, che agisce verso il centro della terra. Stando alla terza legge di Newton, ogni particella esercita una forza verso la terra di uguale grandezza e direzione opposta. Inoltre, la seconda legge di Newton ci dice che la grandezza dell'accelerazione prodotta da ognuna delle forze sulla terra è mg divisa per la massa della terra. Visto che la proporzione della massa di un oggetto in confronto a quella della terra è insignificante, il movimento della terra può essere completamente trascurato. Di conseguenza, consideriamo questo sistema come un gruppo sistemi a particelle singole, soggetti alla forza gravitazionale universale della terra. Gravitational potential energy depends on an object’s weight and its height above the ground. It is one part of the total potential energy of a system, which comes from the interactions between objects. In a system, the total potential energy is the sum of the potential energies for all the objects.

Potential energy is usually grouped into two main categories: gravitational potential energy and elastic potential energy. Gravitational potential energy describes the energy tied to a body’s weight and position near Earth. Elastic potential energy is the other major category, and it comes from a different kind of interaction.

Near Earth’s surface, the gravitational force on a body is its weight, or mg, and it points toward the center of Earth. By Newton’s third law, the body pulls on Earth with an equal force in the opposite direction. Newton’s second law shows that Earth’s acceleration from this force is mg divided by Earth’s mass, but Earth is so massive compared with ordinary objects that its motion can be neglected.

Because of this, we treat the situation as a single-particle system in a uniform gravitational field. The work done by Earth’s gravitational force near the surface depends on the object’s mass, the acceleration due to gravity, and the change in height. That work is the negative of the change in gravitational potential energy.
