Non-conservative Forces

Le forze non conservative sono quelle forze che causano un cambiamento nell'energia totale del sistema convertendola in calore, luce o qualsiasi altra forma di energia.
L'attrito, la resistenza dell'aria e la viscosità sono alcuni esempi di forze non conservative. Sono anche note come forze dissipative in quanto causano la perdita o la dissipazione dell'energia meccanica nel sistema.
Ad esempio, quando un'auto sbanda su una strada, perde energia meccanica poiché una parte della sua energia cinetica viene convertita in energia termica a causa dell'attrito.
Per comprendere il lavoro svolto dalle forze non conservative, si considerino due oggetti identici che scivolano contemporaneamente lungo due diversi scivoli.
L'oggetto che si muove sulla diapositiva A perderebbe più energia a causa dell'attrito. Pertanto, il lavoro svolto dalla forza di attrito sulla slitta A è maggiore di quella su B.
Quindi, il lavoro svolto dalle forze non conservative è irreversibile, non può essere descritto come una funzione dell'energia potenziale e dipende solo dal percorso intrapreso dall'oggetto.

Le forze non conservative sono dissipative come l'attrito o la resistenza dell'aria. Queste forze sottraggono energia da un sistema mentre questo progredisce. A differenza delle forze conservative, quelle non conservative non sono associate ad energia potenziale. Questo avviene perché l'energia viene persa nel sistema e in seguito non può essere trasformata in lavoro.

Diversamente dalle loro controparti conservative, esse sono dipendenti dal percorso; è importante dove l'oggetto inizia e si ferma. Per esempio, una mola applicata ad una forza non conservativa perché, il lavoro svolto dipende da quante rotazioni essa effettua. In più, una forza non conservativa trasforma un movimento macroscopico in uno microscopico. Ad esempio, quando una palla colpisce una mazza, genera un suono,il quale è un movimento microscopico. Inoltre, anche la forma della palla è momentaneamente deformata a causa della collisione con la mazza; quando la palla rimbalza sulla mazza, ritorna alla forma originale. Attraverso tutto questo, gli atomi di palla, mazza e atmosfera sperimentano una vibrazione e perdono un po' della loro energia sotto forma di calore.

Non-conservative forces, such as friction and air resistance, remove energy from a system as it moves. The energy is not stored as potential energy. Instead, it is lost from the system and cannot be used later for useful work.

These forces are path-dependent, which means the route matters. Where an object starts and stops can change the work done. A grinding wheel is one example, because the work depends on how many rotations the wheel makes.

Non-conservative forces also turn large-scale motion into tiny motions. When a ball hits a bat, the collision creates sound, which is a microscopic motion. The ball also bends for a moment and then returns to its original shape.

During the collision, the atoms in the ball, the bat, and the air vibrate. Some of that energy is lost as heat. This is why non-conservative forces are often described as dissipative forces.
