Types of Kinetic Energy

Anche l'energia cinetica esiste in diverse forme, vale a dire energie meccaniche, elettriche, termiche e radianti.
Mentre l'energia meccanica è dovuta al movimento meccanico di un oggetto come un'auto in movimento, l'energia elettrica è costituita dal flusso di cariche elettriche, come si vede nei fulmini. Quando l'energia cinetica è sotto forma di onde elettromagnetiche, come l'energia della luce solare, è energia radiante.
L'energia termica è l'energia cinetica associata al movimento degli atomi e delle molecole in un oggetto. Quando gli atomi e le molecole all'interno di un oggetto si muovono o vibrano rapidamente e si scontrano più frequentemente tra loro, la temperatura dell'oggetto aumenta. Il calore di una fiamma ardente è un esempio di energia termica.
Il contrario accade quando le vibrazioni o i movimenti di questi atomi e molecole rallentano. Si dice quindi che l'oggetto è freddo e ha una bassa energia termica, come quando l'acqua si congela.

La quantità di energia cinetica di un oggetto dipende dalla sua massa e velocità. Consideriamo due palle aventi masse differenti che rotolano su un piano inclinato alla stessa velocità. La palla più pesante avrà più energia cinetica. Allo stesso modo, quando due palle aventi la stessa massa rotolano in un piano inclinato a velocità diverse, la palla che si muove più velocemente ha più energia cinetica.

Ci sono molte forme diverse di energia cinetica, tra cui l'energia meccanica, elettrica, radiante e termica. L'energia meccanica è associata con il movimento di un oggetto. Più velocemente un oggetto si muove, e più energia meccanica ha. Per esempio, una pallottola sparata da una pistola o l'acqua che scorre giù da una diga sono esempi di energia meccanica. L'energia elettrica è attribuita al flusso delle cariche elettriche, come osservato nel caso dei fulmini durante un temporale o nei circuiti elettrici e nei dispositivi. L'energia radiante è una forma di energia cinetica che viaggia sotto forma di onde elettromagnetiche, e può essere sperimentata in forma di luce e calore. Kinetic energy depends on an object’s mass and speed. A heavier object moving at the same speed has more kinetic energy than a lighter one. An object moving faster also has more kinetic energy when the mass stays the same.

Thermal energy is related to the random motion of atoms and molecules. Temperature measures the average kinetic energy of the particles in an object. When atoms and molecules move or vibrate quickly, the object has a higher average kinetic energy and a higher temperature. When they move more slowly, the average kinetic energy and temperature are lower. If no chemical reaction or phase change occurs, adding thermal energy raises temperature, and removing thermal energy lowers it.
