Magnetic Force On Current-Carrying Wires: Example

Si consideri un conduttore nel piano XY che trasporta corrente a sinistra. Il conduttore è costituito da due segmenti rettilinei con una lunghezza di L parallela all'asse x e un semicerchio con un raggio di R.
Se il conduttore è posizionato in un campo magnetico uniforme perpendicolare al piano del filo, rivolto verso l'esterno, determinare la forza magnetica totale sul conduttore.
In primo luogo, determinare la forza magnetica per i singoli tratti rettilinei che trasportano corrente in direzione x.
In secondo luogo, dividere il segmento curvo in sezioni diritte infinitesimali aventi una lunghezza di dl ad un angolo di theta.
La lunghezza infinitesimale e il campo magnetico sono perpendicolari l'uno all'altro e la direzione del loro prodotto incrociato è radialmente verso l'esterno. Quindi, l'entità e le componenti della forza sulle sezioni possono essere determinate.
Integrando l'espressione rispetto al theta, è possibile determinare la forza sull'intero conduttore curvo.
Infine, sommando le forze su tutte e tre le sezioni, si può ottenere la forza totale sul conduttore nella direzione y positiva.

In un campo magnetico, le cariche in movimento incontrano una forza. Se un filo contiene queste cariche in movimento, cioè se il filo trasporta una corrente, allora una forza agisce anche sul filo. Considera una coppia di cavi flessibili che reggono un filo lungo 40 cm e del peso di 10 g in posizione orizzontale. Il filo è posto in un campo magnetico costante di 0,40 T, come mostrato nella Figura 1(a). Determina la magnitudine e la direzione della corrente che scorre nel filo necessaria per rimuovere la tensione nei cavi di supporto.

Per risolvere il problema, prima di tutto, disegna un diagramma di corpo libero del sistema, come mostrato nella Figura 1(b). Magnetic force can balance the weight of a current-carrying wire when the wire sits in a magnetic field. Moving charges in the wire feel a force, so the wire itself can be pushed upward or downward. This example uses a flexible wire that is 40 cm long and has a mass of 10 g. It is held in a horizontal position inside a constant 0.40 T magnetic field.

The goal is to find the current needed to remove the tension in the supporting leads. To do that, a free-body diagram is drawn first. The diagram shows the forces acting on the wire. Then the right-hand rule is used to find the direction of the magnetic force on the wire.

When the tension in the leads is zero, the magnetic force and the gravitational force are balanced. The magnetic force points up, so it can counter the wire’s weight. By setting the weight equal to the magnetic force, the current in the wire can be determined. The strong magnetic field produces a large enough force on the wire to support its weight.
