Considera una tenda legata al suolo, con l'aiuto di golfari, sottoposta a tre forze.
Si consideri un sistema di coordinate cartesiane, con l'origine in corrispondenza del golfare. La forza F1 agisce lungo un piano x-y bidimensionale, mentre la forza F2 agisce in uno spazio tridimensionale. La forza F3 è lungo l'asse x negativo.
La grandezza delle componenti x e y di F1 può essere ottenuta utilizzando una terna pitagorica. Utilizzando le grandezze ottenute, F1 può essere espressa in forma cartesiana.
Analogamente, F2 viene risolto in componenti verticali e orizzontali. Risolvendo ulteriormente le componenti orizzontali, F2 può essere espresso in termini di vettori unitari i, j e k lungo i tre assi.
Poiché la terza forza è lungo l'asse x negativo, le sue componenti y e z sono zero.
La forza risultante viene quindi ottenuta nella sua forma cartesiana sommando vettorialmente le rispettive componenti di tutte e tre le forze.
L'entità della forza risultante è calcolata come la radice quadrata della somma dei quadrati di tutte e tre le forze che agiscono lungo le rispettive direzioni.

Per risolvere un sistema di forze tridimensionali, prima risolvi ogni forza nelle proprie componenti scalari rispettive. Fai ciò utilizzando le funzioni trigonometriche e i princìpi dell'aggiunta di vettori. Una volta che ogni forza è risolta nelle sue componenti, opera la somma vettoriale delle rispettive componenti di tutte e tre le forze per ottenere la forza risultante.

Un altro aspetto importante da considerare quando si risolve un sistema di forze tridimensionali è la scelta di un sistema di coordinate. Un sistema cartesiano è un sistema di riferimento utilizzato spesso, che ci consente di determinare la direzione e l'entità di ogni forza rispetto agli assi x, y e z. A volte è anche necessario utilizzare sistemi di coordinate sferiche o cilindriche a seconda della natura del problema.

Three-dimensional force systems involve forces acting in three different directions at the same time. These problems are common in physics and engineering. They are used to find the resultant force, which helps predict or analyze how an object or structure will behave.

The first step is to resolve each force into scalar components. A scalar component is the amount of force along one axis. Trigonometric functions and vector addition are used to break the force into parts and then combine those parts correctly.

After each force is split into components, the matching x, y, and z components are added vectorially. A Cartesian coordinate system is often used for this step because it shows each force relative to the x, y, and z axes. In some problems, spherical or cylindrical coordinate systems are a better fit, depending on the shape of the situation.

The resultant force is then found from the combined components. Its magnitude is calculated as the square root of the sum of the squares of the three directional parts. This value gives the overall strength of the force acting on the system.
