Si consideri un elemento strutturale con un sistema di varie forze e momenti di coppia.
Per spostare la forza in un punto O che non giace sulla linea di azione della forza, si aggiunge una coppia con un momento uguale al momento della forza attorno a O.
Secondo il principio di trasmissibilità, una forza che agisce su un corpo è un vettore di scorrimento che può essere applicato in qualsiasi punto lungo la sua linea d'azione.
Poiché un momento di coppia è un vettore libero, può essere spostato direttamente nel punto O.
La forza risultante è uguale alla somma di tutte le forze ed è indipendente dalla posizione del punto.
Il momento di coppia risultante è uguale alla somma di tutti i momenti di coppia e dei momenti delle forze attorno al punto O e dipende dalla posizione del punto.

Semplificando questi sistemi, l'analisi diventa più gestibile e più facile da comprendere. Un approccio per ottenere questa semplificazione è spostare una forza in un punto O che non giace sulla sua linea d'azione e aggiungere una coppia con un momento uguale al momento della forza rispetto al punto O.

Il principio della trasmissibilità gioca un ruolo cruciale in questo processo. Secondo questo principio, una forza che agisce su un corpo è un vettore di scorrimento che può essere applicato in qualsiasi punto lungo la sua linea d'azione senza modificare i suoi effetti esterni. Structural systems often experience several forces and couple moments at the same time. Engineers simplify these loading cases by replacing them with an equivalent force and moment system at a chosen point O. This makes the analysis easier while keeping the same external effects on the member.

A key idea in this process is the principle of transmissibility. A force is a sliding vector, which means it can be moved anywhere along its line of action without changing how the body behaves externally. A couple moment is a free vector, so it can be shifted directly to point O without changing the system’s external effects.

To build the equivalent system at point O, the resultant force is found by adding all the forces. This resultant force does not depend on where point O is located. The resultant couple moment does depend on point O, and it equals the sum of all couple moments plus the moments of the forces about point O.

This same method works for any number of forces, force components, and couple moments. The final force and couple moment at point O produce the same external effects as the original loading system. By combining forces and moments in this way, engineers can analyze complex structures more efficiently and predict how they will behave under loading conditions.
