Si consideri un treppiede costituito da un traliccio spaziale tetraedrico con un giunto sferico in C.
Se sono date l'altezza e la lunghezza degli elementi orizzontali e verticali, quale forza agisce sugli elementi BC e BA, considerando che una forza di trazione viene applicata in D?
Viene disegnato un diagramma di corpo libero, che include tutte le forze di reazione in A, B e C.
Viene applicata la condizione di equilibrio del momento al giunto C. Le distanze sono espresse in termini di vettori di posizione in tre dimensioni.
Semplificando ulteriormente e utilizzando le condizioni di equilibrio delle forze, le componenti vettoriali lungo i producono FAy. Allo stesso modo, equiparando i coefficienti k a zero, si ottiene FBx. 
Infine, equiparando i coefficienti j, si ottiene FAx. 
Ora, un diagramma di corpo libero al giunto B è considerato per calcolare le forze FBC e FBA.
Le forze FBD, FBC e FBA possono essere espresse utilizzando i vettori di posizione.
Applicando la condizione di equilibrio delle forze al giunto B e equiparando i coefficienti dei vettori unitari i, j e k a zero, si ottengono le forze lungo BC e BA.

Semplificando ulteriormente e utilizzando le condizioni di equilibrio delle forze, le componenti del vettore lungo i danno FAy pari a 6 N e lungo k danno FBx pari a -7.2 N. Infine, uguagliando i coefficienti di j si ottiene il valore di FAx come 6 N.

Ora, consideriamo il diagramma delle forze libere al giunto B per calcolare le forze FBC e FBA. Le forze FBD, FBC e FBA possono essere espresse utilizzando vettori di posizione. Viene applicata la condizione di equilibrio delle forze al giunto B.

A space truss is a three-dimensional truss structure made of members connected at their ends. It often uses ball-and-socket joints to form a stable and versatile framework. Because it can handle complex loads, this type of structure is used in many construction projects.

The example begins with a tripod made from a tetrahedral space truss. A ball-and-socket joint is located at C. The height and the lengths of the horizontal and vertical members are known. A tensile force is applied at joint D. A free-body diagram is then drawn to include the reaction forces at joints A, B, and C.

To find the forces in members BC and BA, moment equilibrium is applied at joint C. The distances are written as position vectors in three dimensions. After the equations are simplified, the i component gives F Ay as 6 N, and the k component gives F Bx as -7.2 N. The j component then gives F Ax as 6 N.

The analysis continues with a free-body diagram at joint B. The forces F BD, F BC, and F BA are written using position vectors. Force equilibrium is applied at joint B. When the i, j, and k unit-vector coefficients are set to zero, the forces in BC and BA are both found to be zero.
