Quando una trave è soggetta a carichi diversi, si producono forze interne. Queste forze possono essere determinate considerando un punto immaginario sulla trave e utilizzando il metodo della sezione.
La forza interna che agisce perpendicolarmente alla sezione trasversale della trave è chiamata forza normale o forza assiale, mentre la forza che agisce tangenzialmente alla sezione trasversale è chiamata forza di taglio.
Queste forze agiscono in direzioni opposte su ciascun segmento e possono essere determinate applicando le equazioni di equilibrio.
Si consideri un OB a trave a sbalzo con un carico variabile. Determinare le forze normali e di taglio che agiscono al centro della trave.
Queste forze possono essere determinate utilizzando il metodo della sezione e analizzando le forze sul segmento AB della trave.

Quando una trave è sottoposta a diverse carichi, come il peso, la pressione o altre forze esterne, si generano forze all'interno della trave. Queste forze possono avere un impatto significativo sulla stabilità generale e sulla resistenza della struttura. Beam loads create internal forces inside a structure. Weight, pressure, and other external forces can all act on a beam. These internal forces affect the beam’s stability and strength.

Engineers study these forces to find their size and direction. A common approach is the method of sections. In this method, an imaginary cut is made at a chosen point on the beam, and the forces at that section are analyzed.

One internal force is the normal force, also called the axial force. It acts perpendicular to the beam’s cross-section. Depending on the load, this force can be compressive or tensile.

The other main internal force is the shear force. It acts tangentially, or along the cross-section. Shear forces act in opposite directions on each segment of the beam.

Normal and shear forces can be found by using equilibrium equations on the beam. This analysis is important in structural engineering. It helps engineers judge the stability, strength, and performance of beams and other structural elements.
