Una forza è detta conservativa, se il suo lavoro dipende solo dalla posizione iniziale e finale, indipendentemente dal percorso seguito.
Due esempi di forze conservative sono il peso di un corpo e la forza della molla.
Il peso è la forza subita da un oggetto a causa della gravità.
Se il blocco appeso a una gru viene spostato contro la gravità da uno spostamento verticale di dr, allora il lavoro svolto è il prodotto scalare della forza e dello spostamento verticale.
Il lavoro svolto è negativo in quanto il peso agisce nella direzione opposta allo spostamento.
Poiché il lavoro svolto è indipendente dal percorso intrapreso e dipende solo dallo spostamento verticale, il peso è una forza conservativa.
Allo stesso modo, per le molle linearmente elastiche, quando un blocco viene spostato orizzontalmente, il lavoro dipende solo dalle posizioni iniziale e finale della molla ed è indipendente dal percorso intrapreso. Quindi, anche le forze esercitate dalle molle sono conservative.

Le forze conservative sono forze che dipendono solo dalle posizioni iniziali e finali di un oggetto e sono indipendenti dal percorso che l'oggetto compie tra queste posizioni. Queste forze conservano l'energia, il che significa che il lavoro svolto dalla forza è indipendente dal percorso seguito. Esempi di forze conservative includono la gravità, le forze elettrostatiche e le molle soggette alla legge di Hooke.

Considera una palla che rotola giù da una collina. Il lavoro svolto dalla gravità sulla palla, mentre si muove dalla cima della collina alla base è lo stesso, indipendentemente dal percorso che la palla compie lungo la collina. Le forze conservative sono anche utili nella progettazione di sistemi meccanici. Conservative Forces

Conservative forces are forces whose work depends only on an object’s starting and ending positions. The path between those positions does not change the amount of work done. This idea is important in mechanical engineering because it helps describe how energy moves through a system.

A conservative force also conserves energy in the sense that its work is path independent. Gravity is one example. Electrostatic forces and springs modeled by Hooke’s law are also examples. A ball rolling down a hill shows this idea clearly. The work done by gravity is the same whether the ball takes a straight path or a longer route to the bottom.

Because conservative forces are tied to position, they can be represented by a potential energy function. This function describes the energy stored in a system based on where an object is located. Engineers use this relationship to calculate the work done on a system and the energy needed to move an object from one position to another. That information helps them design more efficient systems and reduce energy loss from non-conservative forces such as friction.
