Work Done Over an Inclined Plane

Considera una persona che scia lungo un pendio. Supponendo che la forza dovuta all'attrito sugli sci sia trascurabile sul ghiaccio, si può disegnare un diagramma a corpo libero.
La componente della forza gravitazionale lungo lo spostamento sposta la persona in avanti. Le forze perpendicolari allo spostamento non hanno alcun ruolo nel movimento e, quindi, non contribuiscono al lavoro svolto.
Quindi, il lavoro svolto è semplicemente la componente di forza parallela moltiplicata per lo spostamento.
Un altro modo per risolvere questo problema è prendere il vettore di forza invece del suo componente. 
In questo caso, viene considerato l'angolo tra la forza e lo spostamento. Si noti che l'espressione finale per il lavoro svolto è la stessa.
Tuttavia, se lo spostamento dello sciatore è nella direzione opposta alla forza tale che inizia e finisce a riposo, allora il lavoro svolto è negativo.

Il lavoro compiuto dalla gravità per spostare un corpo rigido, o il lavoro compiuto da una forza opposta per spostare un corpo rigido contro la gravità, può essere calcolato utilizzando il quadro del centro di massa. È l'integrale di linea della forza di gravità lungo il percorso, considerato positivo se la gravità aumenta la sua energia cinetica e negativo se viene svolto lavoro contro la gravità per sollevarlo, riducendo così la sua energia cinetica. Gravity and work on sloped motion can be described with the center-of-mass framework. For a rigid body, internal forces do no work, so they can be ignored. The work-energy theorem then uses only the external forces.

The work done by gravity depends on the path of the body’s center of mass. If gravity helps increase kinetic energy, the work is positive. If an object is lifted against gravity, the work is negative because kinetic energy decreases.

For horizontal motion, the work done by or against gravity is zero. In that case, any change in kinetic energy comes from other forces. The same idea applies to motion over an inclined plane.

On a slope, only the component of gravity parallel to the plane contributes to work. The force perpendicular to the plane does no work during the motion. That is the key difference from horizontal motion and other straight paths.
