The temperature detector fire alarm system consists of a thermistor sensor that initiates a small current flow in case of a fire. This signal is too weak to trigger the alarm system. So, the signals are amplified by an operational amplifier, often called an op amp, to activate the alarm system.
Op amp&#x27;s are commercially available in a variety of integrated circuit packages. One of the most common is the LM741, sold in an eight-pin dual in-line package.
Typically, an op amp has eight pins: two input pins, one output pin, two power supply pins, and three additional pins for offset null or balance.
The circuit symbol for an op amp is a triangle, with the inverting input marked with a minus sign and the non-inverting input with a plus sign.
An op amp, in conjunction with other circuit elements, can also perform a broad range of signal-processing operations.
Additional power supplies are used to bias the operational amplifier. The current drawn from power supplies is the sum of the output current and the current required to power the amplifier internal circuitry.

Il pin 8 non viene utilizzato e i pin 1 e 5 rappresentano un problema minore. I cinque terminali significativi sono l&#x27;ingresso invertente (pin 2), l&#x27;ingresso non invertente (pin 3), l&#x27;uscita (pin 6), l&#x27;alimentazione positiva V (pin 7) e l&#x27;alimentazione negativa V (pin 4). L&#x27;amplificatore operazionale ha due ingressi e un&#x27;uscita, con gli ingressi contrassegnati con un meno (-) e un pi&#xF9; (+) per denotare rispettivamente ingressi invertenti e non invertenti.

Un ingresso applicato al terminale non invertente apparir&#xE0; con la stessa polarit&#xE0; dell&#x27;uscita, mentre l&#x27;ingresso applicato al terminale invertente apparir&#xE0; invertito come uscita. Come componente attivo, l&#x27;amplificatore operazionale necessita di un&#x27;alimentazione di tensione. An operational amplifier, or op-amp, is a flexible circuit building block used in many electronic designs. It can act like a voltage-controlled voltage source, and it can also be used to create a voltage- or current-controlled current source. When resistors and capacitors are connected to its terminals, an op-amp can perform mathematical operations on signals.

Op-amps are able to sum signals, amplify a signal, integrate it, or differentiate it. These features make them useful in practical circuit work. They are popular because they are adaptable, affordable, and easy to use.

An op-amp is built from a network of resistors, transistors, capacitors, and diodes. It is often sold as an integrated circuit in an eight-pin dual in-line package, or DIP. In that package, pin 8 is not used, and pins 1 and 5 are of minor concern.

The five important terminals are the inverting input on pin 2, the noninverting input on pin 3, the output on pin 6, the positive power supply V on pin 7, and the negative power supply V on pin 4. The circuit symbol is a triangle. The op-amp has two inputs and one output, with minus (-) and plus (+) marks showing the inverting and noninverting inputs.

A signal applied to the noninverting terminal appears with the same polarity at the output. A signal applied to the inverting terminal appears inverted at the output. Because the op-amp is an active component, it needs a voltage supply to operate. The current drawn from the supplies includes both the output current and the current needed for the amplifier’s internal circuitry.
