Un integratore e un differenziatore ideali possono essere creati da un circuito di amplificatore operazionale invertente, sostituendo rispettivamente i resistori di retroazione e di ingresso con condensatori.
Un integratore è un circuito di amplificatore operazionale che genera un'uscita proporzionale all'integrale del segnale di ingresso.
Al contrario, un differenziatore produce un'uscita proporzionale alla velocità di variazione del segnale di ingresso.
Applicando la legge della corrente di Kirchhoff al nodo invertente di entrambi i circuiti e utilizzando le espressioni corrente-tensione per il resistore e il condensatore, è possibile derivare un'equazione che mette in relazione le tensioni di uscita e di ingresso.

I circuiti operazionali hanno applicazioni significative in vari campi, inclusa l'ingegneria automobilistica. Una di queste applicazioni sono i sistemi di controllo della velocità nelle automobili, dove i circuiti operazionali sono integrati per mantenere una velocità costante. In questi sistemi, gli amplificatori operazionali funzionano sia come integratori che come differenziatori.

Un integratore all'interno di un circuito operazionale produce un'uscita direttamente proporzionale all'integrale del segnale di ingresso. Ciò si ottiene sostituendo il resistore di retroazione in un tipico circuito amplificatore invertente con un condensatore, ottenendo un integratore ideale. Per raggiungere questo obiettivo è necessario sostituire il resistore di ingresso con un condensatore in un amplificatore invertente standard, creando un circuito differenziatore. Un'equazione che collega le tensioni di uscita e di ingresso viene stabilita applicando la legge attuale di Kirchhoff e impiegando le relazioni corrente-tensione. In questo caso, l'equazione indica che la tensione di uscita è proporzionale alla derivata del segnale di ingresso.

Vale la pena notare che questi circuiti operazionali sono preziosi nelle applicazioni di accumulo di energia e sono spesso progettati utilizzando resistori e condensatori per la loro compattezza ed efficienza in termini di costi. Op-amp circuits are used in cruise control systems to help cars keep a constant speed. In these systems, operational amplifiers, or op-amps, can work as integrators and differentiators. Both circuits use resistors and capacitors, which makes them compact and cost-effective.

An integrator circuit produces an output that is proportional to the integral of the input signal. It is made by replacing the feedback resistor in a standard inverting amplifier with a capacitor. The output and input voltages can be related with Kirchhoff's current law and the current-voltage behavior of resistors and capacitors.

After integration, the equation shows that the output voltage matches the integral of the input signal. A differentiator circuit works in the opposite way. It produces an output proportional to the rate of change of the input signal by replacing the input resistor in a standard inverting amplifier with a capacitor.

The differentiator equation is also built with Kirchhoff's current law and current-voltage relations. In this case, the output voltage is proportional to the derivative of the input signal. Integrators are widely used in analog computers and other applications, while differentiators are less common because they can amplify electrical noise and become electronically unstable.
