Una barra sottile sottoposta a un carico assiale subisce una deformazione in direzione assiale e trasversale. La deformazione interessa gli elementi cubici al suo interno.
A seconda del suo orientamento, il cubo si trasforma in un parallelepipedo rettangolare o in un rombo, con conseguente deformazione di taglio.
Il carico assiale sull'elemento si traduce in una combinazione di taglio e deformazioni normali.
L'applicazione di un carico assiale attiva sollecitazioni normali e di taglio su elementi orientati con un angolo di 45 gradi rispetto all'asse del carico.
L'elemento cubico, intersecato con un piano diagonale, forma un elemento prismatico. L'elemento prismatico modifica i suoi angoli interni e i suoi lati in modo proporzionale alle deformazioni generate dal carico.
Applicando la formula per la tangente della differenza di due angoli, viene determinata la relazione tra la massima deformazione di taglio e la deformazione assiale.
Dalla legge di Hooke si ottiene la relazione tra le costanti. Una costante può essere determinata dalle altre due.

Quando un carico assiale viene applicato a una barra sottile la deformazione si verifica nelle direzioni assiale e trasversale. Questa deformazione influisce sull'elemento cubico all'interno della barra, trasformandolo in un parallelepipedo rettangolare o in un rombo, a seconda del suo orientamento. Questo processo di trasformazione induce deformazioni di taglio. Il carico assiale provoca sia deformazioni di taglio che normali. L'applicazione di un carico assiale provoca uguali sollecitazioni normali e di taglio sugli elementi orientati con un angolo di 45° rispetto all'asse del carico. Significativamente, la deformazione di taglio raggiunge il suo livello massimo in questo particolare orientamento.

Quando un piano diagonale interseca l'elemento cubico, si forma un elemento prismatico. Questo elemento prismatico altera i suoi angoli interni e i suoi lati in proporzione alle deformazioni indotte dal carico. Questo processo di deformazione mette in luce gli effetti dello stress sull'integrità strutturale dell'elemento. La relazione tra la deformazione di taglio massima e la deformazione assiale può essere derivata applicando l'espressione per la tangente della differenza tra due angoli.

Axial load effects on shear strain are shown by how a slender bar deforms under tension or compression. When the bar is loaded along its axis, it changes in both the axial direction and the transverse direction. A small cubic element inside the bar can turn into a rectangular parallelepiped or a rhombus, depending on how it is oriented.

This change in shape creates shearing strain, which is the distortion caused when angles in a material change. Axial loading produces both normal strain and shearing strain. For an element placed at 45° to the load axis, the normal stress and shearing stress are equal. The shearing strain is also at its maximum at this orientation.

If a diagonal plane cuts through the cubic element, a prismatic element is formed. This element changes its sides and internal angles in response to the load-induced strains. The result shows how stress affects the structural form of the element under axial loading.

The maximum shearing strain can be related to axial strain by using the tangent of the difference between two angles. This relationship helps explain how the two strain types interact. Hooke's law links the material constants, so one constant can be found if the other two are known. That connection is key to understanding how a material responds to stress and strain.
