La trasformata di Laplace è un potente strumento matematico che semplifica le equazioni differenziali convertendole in espressioni algebriche.
Generalmente, la trasformata di Laplace di una funzione è rappresentata dal simbolo L[x(t)], espresso dalla seguente equazione dove 's' è una variabile complessa con componenti sia reali che immaginarie, rispettivamente σ e ω.
Esistono due tipi di trasformate di Laplace: quella bilaterale e quella unilaterale.
La trasformata bilaterale consente alle funzioni temporali di essere diverse da zero per il tempo negativo, rendendola utile sia per i segnali causali che per quelli non causali.
Al contrario, la trasformata unilaterale, che è più comune nella pratica, assume una funzione zero per il tempo negativo, concentrandosi esclusivamente sui segnali di tempo positivo.
