Generator Voltage Control

Il controllo della tensione del generatore è fondamentale per mantenere il funzionamento stabile di generatori sincroni e turbine eoliche. Nei modelli più vecchi, un generatore CC azionato dal rotore fornisce potenza CC all'avvolgimento di campo del rotore e la potenza viene trasferita tramite anelli collettori e spazzole. Nei modelli più recenti, vengono utilizzati eccitatori statici o “brushless”. Gli eccitatori statici rettificano la potenza CA dai terminali del generatore e quindi trasferiscono la potenza CC direttamente al rotore. Gli eccitatori brushless, d'altro canto, utilizzano un generatore sincrono invertito in cui la potenza CA viene ottenuta dagli avvolgimenti dell'indotto e rettificata tramite diodi montati sul rotore, eliminando la necessità di anelli collettori e spazzole.

Lo schema a blocchi fornisce un metodo standardizzato per visualizzare i sistemi di controllo della tensione del generatore. L'eccitatore IEEE di tipo 1 utilizza un generatore CC azionato dall’albero per produrre la corrente di campo, con un regolatore di tensione che regola la corrente di campo in base alle misurazioni della tensione del terminale.

Nello schema a blocchi, la tensione del terminale, Vt, viene misurata e confrontata con una tensione di riferimento V_ref. La differenza tra queste due viene utilizzata per regolare la tensione di campo. Il regolatore di tensione elabora l'errore di tensione con un guadagno (K_a) e una costante di tempo (T_a). L'uscita del regolatore di tensione è la tensione di campo applicata all'avvolgimento di campo del generatore, che regola la tensione del terminale. Questi modelli rappresentano le dinamiche dell'eccitatore e del generatore, fornendo un metodo chiaro per analizzare e migliorare la stabilità.

Le turbine eoliche di tipo 1 impiegano macchine a induzione a gabbia di scoiattolo senza regolazione diretta della tensione. I sistemi di tipo 2 impiegano macchine a induzione a rotore avvolto con resistenza esterna regolabile, modellate come un eccitatore, per mantenere una potenza di uscita costante nonostante le variazioni della velocità del vento. Le configurazioni di tipo 3 e di tipo 4 gestiscono sia la potenza reale che quella reattiva. Il controllo della tensione del generatore comporta metodologie per garantire il funzionamento stabile e affidabile dei generatori sincroni e delle moderne turbine eoliche.

Generator voltage regulation helps keep synchronous generators and wind turbines working stably. Older systems use a DC generator driven by the rotor to supply DC power to the rotor field winding. That power is passed through slip rings and brushes.

Newer systems use static exciters or brushless exciters. A static exciter rectifies AC power from the generator terminals and sends DC power directly to the rotor. A brushless exciter uses an inverted synchronous generator, takes AC power from armature windings, and rectifies it with diodes mounted on the rotor. This design removes the need for slip rings and brushes.

A block diagram is often used to show how generator voltage control works in a standard way. The IEEE Type 1 exciter uses a shaft-driven DC generator to produce field current. A voltage regulator then adjusts that current based on the measured terminal voltage. In the diagram, terminal voltage, Vt, is compared with a reference voltage, Vref, and the difference is used to adjust field voltage.

The voltage regulator processes the voltage error with a gain, Ka, and a time constant, Ta. Its output is the field voltage applied to the generator field winding, which changes the terminal voltage. These models describe exciter and generator dynamics and help engineers analyze and improve stability.

Wind turbines use related control ideas in different machine types. Type 1 turbines use squirrel cage induction machines and do not have direct voltage regulation. Type 2 systems use wound rotor induction machines with adjustable external resistance, modeled as an exciter, to help keep power output steady when wind speed changes. Type 3 and Type 4 configurations manage both real and reactive power.
