Sono disponibili in una varietà di diametri, teste e lunghezze. Le tecniche di chiodatura includono la chiodatura frontale, la chiodatura terminale e la chiodatura a punta, ogni metodo fornisce angoli e resistenze diverse delle connessioni degli elementi in legno.

Le viti sono un altro tipo di elemento di fissaggio, caratterizzato dalle loro filettature a spirale che consentono una presa sicura quando vengono attorcigliate nel legno. Wood fasteners connect parts of a wood structure and help keep members in place. The strength of the connection depends mainly on direct bearing between the wood members. Different fasteners are chosen for different jobs and structural needs.

Nails are the most common wood fasteners. They are sharp-pointed metal pins that are driven into wood with a hammer or a mechanical nail gun. Nails come in many diameters, head styles, and lengths.

Nailing methods also matter. Face nailing places the nail through the face of one member. End nailing drives the nail into the end of a board, and toe nailing places it at an angle for a stronger connection between members.

Screws use spiral threads to hold firmly in wood. A screw is twisted into place, and that turning motion pulls it deeper into the wood. Different screw types are made for different uses.

Bolts provide a stronger connection and are used with predrilled holes. A nut secures the bolt, and a wrench tightens the nut. Flat steel washers under the bolt head and nut spread the force over a larger area and help prevent the wood fibers from being crushed.

Other wood connectors also support strong construction. Split-ring connectors, toothed plates, and metal framing devices help improve the durability and integrity of wood structures. These fasteners are important for structural stability and for helping wood constructions last longer.
