La misurazione accurata del contenuto d'aria nel calcestruzzo viene effettuata utilizzando diversi metodi in base alle composizioni del calcestruzzo e ai requisiti del progetto.
Ad esempio, il metodo della pressione prevede il posizionamento di un campione di calcestruzzo in una camera sigillata e il calcolo del contenuto d'aria in base alle variazioni di pressione.
Per i calcestruzzi leggeri o contenenti aggregati altamente assorbenti, il metodo volumetrico è più adatto.
Il metodo volumetrico prevede l'aggiunta di alcol a un campione di calcestruzzo per aiutare a rilasciare le bolle d'aria e quindi la misurazione della variazione di volume.
Un altro metodo, il metodo gravimetrico, prevede la misurazione della densità del calcestruzzo per calcolare il contenuto d'aria.
In alternativa, il metodo dell'indicatore Chace offre un rapido test sul campo che fornisce una misura approssimativa del contenuto d'aria osservando la variazione del volume d'aria in un dispositivo simile a una siringa mentre viene forzata nel calcestruzzo.

La misurazione del contenuto d'aria nel calcestruzzo è fondamentale per garantire l'integrità strutturale e la durabilità delle strutture in calcestruzzo, soprattutto in ambienti soggetti a condizioni meteorologiche avverse. Il metodo volumetrico, dettagliato nella norma UNI EN 12350-7, è preferito per il calcestruzzo leggero o per miscele con aggregati altamente assorbenti, e misura il contenuto d'aria osservando la variazione di volume in una miscela di calcestruzzo e alcol.


 Il metodo gravimetrico calcola il contenuto d'aria determinando la massa volumica del calcestruzzo ed è adatto per analisi scientifiche precise, sebbene sia meno comune nelle applicazioni sul campo. Infine, l'indicatore Chace offre una misurazione rapida e approssimativa, utilizzando un dispositivo simile a una siringa per valutare le variazioni del volume d'aria nel calcestruzzo, utile per test immediati sul campo.


 La scelta del metodo corretto dipende dalle proprietà del calcestruzzo, dai requisiti del progetto e dagli strumenti disponibili. L'aderenza alle normative UNI EN garantisce accuratezza e coerenza nelle misurazioni.
