Binary Fission

La fissione binaria è un processo di riproduzione asessuata attraverso il quale le cellule procariotiche, come i batteri, si dividono per formare due cellule figlie geneticamente identiche. Il processo prevede diversi passaggi. Il primo passo è la replicazione del DNA. Inizia quando la molecola circolare di DNA si svolge all'origine della replicazione o oriC. Quindi, le DNA polimerasi sintetizzano due filamenti complementari attraverso la replicazione bidirezionale. La replicazione continua in direzioni opposte fino a raggiungere il capolinea, producendo due copie identiche. In seguito, la cellula inizia ad allungarsi mentre le due molecole di DNA appena formate si muovono verso i poli opposti della cellula. Anche i componenti citoplasmatici iniziano a duplicarsi. Successivamente, il centro della cellula allungata inizia a restringersi. Questo processo è guidato dalla proteina FtsZ, che assembla un anello Z vicino alla membrana citoplasmatica, marcando il sito di divisione. L'anello Z è ancorato alla membrana da proteine ancoranti e recluta ulteriori proteine di divisione per formare il divisoma. Il divisoma, sintetizza una nuova parete cellulare di peptidoglicano e costruisce un setto, portando alla formazione di due cellule figlie.

Replicazione e Separazione del DNA
Il processo ha inizio con la replicazione del cromosoma batterico. La molecola di DNA circolare si srotola in un sito specifico di origine della replicazione, noto come oriC. Le DNA polimerasi sintetizzano quindi nuovi filamenti complementari in direzione bidirezionale fino a raggiungere il termine. Questo meccanismo assicura la formazione di due copie identiche del materiale genetico. Contemporaneamente, le molecole di DNA neoformate vengono dirette verso poli opposti della cellula, assistite da meccanismi di segregazione mediati da proteine. Questa separazione impedisce la sovrapposizione del materiale genetico durante la divisione cellulare.
Allungamento Cellulare e Duplicazione Citoplasmatica
Man mano che il DNA si segrega, la cellula batterica si allunga per ospitare il contenuto genetico e citoplasmatico duplicato. Anche vari componenti cellulari e strutture citoplasmatiche vengono replicati, per garantire che ciascuna cellula figlia disponga degli elementi necessari alla sopravvivenza autonoma.
Divisione e Formazione delle Cellule Figlie
La divisione cellulare &#232; avviata dall'assemblaggio della proteina FtsZ in un anello Z (Z-ring) a livello della regione mediana della cellula. Proteine di ancoraggio stabilizzano questa struttura, mentre proteine aggiuntive vengono reclutate per formare il divisoma, un complesso responsabile della divisione cellulare. Il divisoma coordina la sintesi di nuovi strati di peptidoglicano e la costruzione di un setto. Questo setto cresce verso l'interno, dividendo infine la cellula in due cellule figlie geneticamente identiche. La regolazione precisa della formazione del setto &#232; fondamentale per mantenere l'integrit&#224; cellulare durante la divisione.

Binary fission is the main way prokaryotes, such as bacteria, reproduce asexually. It produces two daughter cells that are genetically identical. When conditions are favorable, this process helps bacterial populations grow quickly.

The process starts when the bacterial chromosome is copied. The circular DNA unwinds at a specific origin of replication called oriC. DNA polymerases then build matching strands in both directions until replication reaches the terminus. This creates two identical copies of the genetic material.

At the same time, the new DNA molecules move toward opposite poles of the cell. Protein-based segregation helps guide this movement. This keeps the genetic material from overlapping as the cell prepares to divide.

As the DNA separates, the bacterial cell elongates. The cell also duplicates its cytoplasmic contents and other cellular components. This gives each future daughter cell the machinery it needs to function on its own.

Cell division begins when the FtsZ protein forms a Z-ring at the middle of the cell. Anchoring proteins stabilize this ring, and more proteins join to form the divisome. The divisome is the protein complex that carries out cell division.

The divisome directs the formation of new peptidoglycan and builds a septum, which is the new dividing wall. The septum grows inward until it splits the cell into two daughter cells. Careful control of septum formation helps keep the cell intact during division. Binary fission shows how efficiently prokaryotes can reproduce and spread under favorable conditions.
