Una volta tracciati e collegati, questi punti, (-1, -1), (0, 1) e (2, 5), formano una retta che rappresenta tutte le soluzioni dell'equazione.
Le intercette sono punti di riferimento fondamentali per comprendere il comportamento dei grafici. L'intercetta sull'asse x si trova ponendo y = 0 e risolvendo rispetto a x, mentre l'intercetta sull'asse y si determina ponendo x = 0 e risolvendo rispetto a y. Questi punti indicano dove il grafico interseca gli assi x e y: per l'equazione y = 2x + 1, ponendo x = 0 si ottiene l'intercetta sull'asse y (0, 1), mentre ponendo y = 0 si ottiene l'intercetta sull'asse x (-0,5, 0).
