Altre funzioni mostrano un comportamento irregolare o oscillante in prossimit&#224; di un particolare valore dell'argomento. Non &#232; possibile stabilire un limite coerente quando una funzione cambia rapidamente senza stabilizzarsi intorno a una tendenza specifica. In generale, tale comportamento comporta l'inesistenza del limite, pur essendo la funzione definita nelle vicinanze.
I limiti possono essere applicati a cambiamenti improvvisi, valori non definiti o andamenti imprevedibili. Essi forniscono un quadro matematico per analizzare il comportamento delle funzioni in prossimit&#224; dei punti critici e descrivere la natura del cambiamento anche quando una valutazione diretta &#232; impossibile.
