時間が経つにつれて、水によって加えられる減衰力として知られる散逸力は、振動の振幅を減少させ、その運動に対応するエネルギー損失を伴い、調和振動の減衰をもたらします。
減衰力は、運動に反対に向けられた振動減衰の尺度である木の丸太の速度に比例します。
正味の力は、反対方向に作用する復元力と減衰力に等しくなります。
速度と加速度の方程式を時間に対する位置の導関数で並べ替えたり書き直したりすると、木材の丸太の減衰調和運動を記述する微分二次方程式が得られます。
