Laplace transform rules help connect the time domain and the frequency domain. This makes it easier to study linear time-invariant systems. The main rules covered here are linearity, time-scaling, time-shifting, and frequency shifting.

Linearity is the basic rule of the Laplace transform. It says that the transform of a sum is the sum of the transforms. If f(t) and g(t) have Laplace transforms F(s) and G(s), then the transform of af(t) + bg(t) is aF(s) + bG(s), where a and b are constants. This lets you transform each part of a function first and then combine the results.

Time-scaling changes how fast a function runs in time. If f(t) has transform F(s), then the transform of f(at) follows a scaling rule in the s-domain. A time compression or expansion changes the frequency-domain form in a corresponding way. This shows how changing the time scale affects the representation of the function.

Time-shifting is used when a function is delayed or moved in time. If f(t) is shifted by t0 to form f(t − t0), its Laplace transform becomes e^(−st0)F(s). The exponential factor marks the delay in the s-domain. This gives a simple way to include time delays in system analysis.

Frequency shifting happens when a time-domain function is multiplied by an exponential term. If f(t) is multiplied by e^(at), its Laplace transform becomes F(s − a).
