遠心分離機、又は遠心機は、世界中ほぼ全ての研究室で使用されている装置です。
遠心分離とは遠心分離機を使って複合混合物の成分を分離する実験の基本操作です。
実験サンプルを超高速で回転させると混合物に遠心力がかかります。すると高密度の粒子は回転軸から遠くに、軽い粒子は近くに相を作ります。
これら粒子はチューブの底に沈降し、ペレットと呼ばれる塊を形成します。その分離した試料もしくは残りの溶液である上澄み、別名上清をその後の実験に使用します。
遠心分離機の原理となる部品はローターと呼ばれ、高速回転する部分です。
