Dye-sensitized Solar Cells

1. TiO2 페이스트 준비

</ol>6. 셀 성능 측정

dye-sensitized solar cells and light capture

Dye-sensitized solar cells use a dye to capture sunlight and turn it into electrical current. They are a type of solar cell, which is an electrical device that uses light to create current. This approach is modeled on nature, where colored molecules absorb light energy and help drive chemical reactions.

The idea connects to photosynthesis in plants. In leaves, chlorophyll pigments give plants their green color and absorb sunlight to power the conversion of water and carbon dioxide into carbohydrates and oxygen. The same basic principle of light absorption helps explain how DSSCs gather energy from the sun.

The development of solar cells began long before modern devices. In 1839, Edmond Becquerel, a 19-year-old French physicist working in his father’s lab, made the first photovoltaic cell. He exposed an acidic solution of silver chloride connected to platinum electrodes, which produced a voltage and current.

Many discoveries followed in the late 19th century and the first half of the 20th century. The first practical solar cell was built by Bell Laboratories in 1954. From the 1950s onward, solar cells were also used to power satellites in space.

Dye-sensitized solar cells were first invented at UC Berkeley by Brian O’Regan and Michael Grätzel. Grätzel later continued this work at the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne in Switzerland. Their work led to the first highly efficient DSSC in 1991.
