비틀림 모멘트는 횡축을 따라 본체에 비틀림 힘이 가해져 단면이 비틀릴 때 발생합니다.

Bending and Torsional Moments

휨모멘트와 비틀림모멘트는 구조공학에서 기본적인 두 가지 개념입니다. 서로 다른 하중조건에서 재료와 구조물의 거동을 이해하는 데 중요한 역할을 합니다.
외력을 받으면 구조요소에서 발생하는 반응에 의해 요소가 휘어집니다. 구조요소가 위로 휘어지면 위쪽에는 압축정형력이, 아래쪽에는 인장정형력이 발생하여 요소의 휘어짐 모멘트를 결정하는 커플이 나타납니다. 이 모멘트는 관심점에서 힘의 작용선까지의 거리와 힘의 크기를 고려하여 계산됩니다.
한쪽 끝에 고정된 자를 구부리는 것이 휘어지는 모멘트의 한 예입니다. 지지되지 않은 끝 부근에서 자에 수직으로 아래로 힘이 가해지면 자에 휘어짐을 유도합니다. 가해지는 힘은 고정된 끝에 대해 모멘트를 발생시켜 자가 휘어지거나 변형되는 결과를 가져옵니다. 이 시나리오에서 자는 압축력과 인장력을 동시에 경험하게 됩니다. 가해진 힘으로부터 멀어지는 방향을 향하는 자의 위쪽은 장력을 받게 됩니다. 가해진 힘을 향하는 아래쪽은 압축력을 받게 됩니다.

스크류드라이버나 파워드릴을 이용하여 스크류를 소재로 구동할 때 스크류가 회전하면서 재료의 저항에 부딪히면서 비틀림 모멘트가 가해집니다. 스크류드라이버나 파워드릴에 의해 발생한 비틀림력으로 스크류가 회전하게 되고, 재료의 저항으로 인해 반대력이 발생하여 비틀림 모멘트가 발생합니다.

Bending and torsional moments describe how materials respond to force. These ideas are important in structural engineering because they help explain how beams, rulers, and screws change shape under load. A moment depends on both the size of the force and the distance from the point of interest to the force’s line of action.

A bending moment forms when an external force makes a structural element bend. If the element bends upward, the top side is in compression and the bottom side is in tension. These opposite forces create a couple that determines the bending moment. A ruler fixed at one end shows this effect when a downward force is applied near the free end.

In that ruler example, the force acts perpendicular to the ruler and causes it to deform around the fixed end. The side facing away from the applied force is in tension, and the side facing toward the force is in compression. This makes the bending moment easy to see in a simple everyday object.

A torsional moment happens when a twisting force is applied along a body’s transverse or longitudinal axis. The material resists that twist, so an internal force develops inside it. A screwdriver or power drill turning a screw shows torsion in action. As the screw rotates and meets resistance from the material, the twisting force and the opposing resistance create the torsional moment.
