Testing Whether a Vector Field Is Conservative

Description

A conservative vector field is a force field where the work done between two points depends only on the start and end points. Gravity is a simple example. For a ball in Earthโ€™s gravitational field, the work depends on the change in height. That stays true even if the ball moves straight up or along a curved path.

Imagine throwing a ball upward from a certain height.

During its motion, the ball may travel straight up and down or follow a curved path. As the ball moves through Earthโ€™s gravitational field, the work done by gravity depends only on the initial and final heights, not on the path taken. This property is called path independence.
