Beatriz received her PhD in Biochemistry from the National University of the South in Argentina, where she investigated the biophysical, molecular, and pharmacological properties of ligand-gated ion channels, focusing particularly on nicotinic acetylcholine receptors, which are key players in central nervous system function. Driven to broaden her understanding of cholinergic signaling beyond the molecular and cellular levels, Beatriz pursued postdoctoral training at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus in the US. There, she specialized in circuit-level and in vivo neuroscience approaches, investigating how acetylcholine and dopamine modulate basal ganglia circuitry through G-protein-coupled receptors, and how this modulation is disrupted in Parkinson’s disease and related motor-cognitive disorders. In her spare time, Beatriz enjoys reading, traveling, and spending time in nature. beatriz.nielsen@jove.com
