What is Weather?

Pogoda odnosi się do warunków występujących w atmosferze w krótkich okresach czasu i mają na nią wpływ interakcje między słońcem, atmosferą, oceanem i lądem.

Energia słoneczna dostaje się do atmosfery i jest pochłaniana przez ląd i wody powierzchniowe, które następnie emitują promieniowanie cieplne w podczerwieni, ogrzewając powietrze.

Mniej gęste ciepłe powietrze w pobliżu powierzchni ziemi unosi się następnie, tworząc pionowe prądy do górnych warstw atmosfery, które mają niższe ciśnienie. W rezultacie powietrze staje się chłodne i gęstsze, co powoduje jego ponowne opadanie, proces zwany cyrkulacją konwekcyjną.

Ten lokalny proces atmosferyczny w połączeniu z dynamicznym nachyleniem Ziemi w kierunku Słońca powoduje zmiany ciśnienia, temperatury atmosferycznej i opadów każdego dnia, tygodnia i miesiąca. Tak więc czynniki te różnią się i w zależności od tego, gdzie jesteś na powierzchni ziemi, pogoda jest inna.

Pogoda odnosi się do aktualnego stanu warunków atmosferycznych w określonym czasie i miejscu. Pogoda jest tymczasowa i wpływają na nią interakcje między słońcem, atmosferą (gazami wokół Ziemi), hydrosferą (zbiornikami wodnymi Ziemi) i geosferą (lądową częścią Ziemi). Ponieważ wszystkie te czynniki różnią się w zależności od miejsca i czasu, na całej planecie można zaobserwować różną pogodę.

<h4>Promieniowanie słoneczne i efekt cieplarniany</h4>

Promieniowanie słoneczne przenika przez atmosferę i wchodzi w interakcję z wodami powierzchniowymi i masami lądowymi. Powierzchnie te emitują energię w postaci promieniowania cieplnego, czyli ciepła, ogrzewającego powietrze. Ciepło albo ucieka przez atmosferę z powrotem w przestrzeń kosmiczną, albo jest zatrzymywane w atmosferze przez określone gazy atmosferyczne—które stale ogrzewają planetę. To zatrzymywanie ciepła w atmosferze nazywa się efektem cieplarnianym. Tak zwane gazy cieplarniane zatrzymują więcej ciepła niż inne gazy.

Ciepłe powietrze ma mniejszą gęstość niż zimne, dlatego ciepłe powietrze unosi się do góry. Wznoszące się powietrze tworzy pionowe prądy do górnych warstw atmosfery, w których panuje niższe ciśnienie atmosferyczne. W miarę oddalania się od źródła promieniowania cieplnego powietrze zaczyna się ochładzać, staje się gęstsze i ponownie opada. Proces ten nazywany jest cyrkulacją konwekcyjną.

<h4>Codzienna pogoda</h4>

Pogodę mierzy się zwykle na podstawie sześciu parametrów: temperatury, ciśnienia atmosferycznego, wiatru, wilgotności, opadów i zachmurzenia. Meteorolodzy mierzą te warunki i przewidują pogodę w najbliższej przyszłości na podstawie trendów z poprzednich obserwacji. Na przykład ciśnienie atmosferyczne odzwierciedla ciężar atmosfery powyżej. Wysokie ciśnienie jest zwykle kojarzone z niższymi temperaturami i czystym niebem, podczas gdy niskie ciśnienie wiąże się z cieplejszą pogodą i burzami. Obserwacja spadku lub wzrostu ciśnienia atmosferycznego pozwala meteorologom na dokonanie krótkoterminowych prognoz, czy należy zabrać ze sobą parasol, czy też spodziewać się słonecznego dnia.

<h4>Ekstremalne zdarzenia pogodowe</h4>

Ekstremalne zjawiska pogodowe obejmują fale upałów, fale zimna, huragany, tornada, susze i powodzie. Zdarzenia te są często nagłe i dlatego trudniejsze do przewidzenia. Ekstremalne zdarzenia pogodowe są zazwyczaj opisywane w odniesieniu do warunków obserwowanych w rozkładzie historycznym dla danej lokalizacji. Korzystając z tych danych historycznych, badania wykazały, że antropogeniczne zmiany klimatyczne doprowadziły do wzrostu częstotliwości i intensywności dziennych ekstremalnych temperatur i opadów. Ponadto modele klimatyczne wskazują, że wraz ze zmianą klimatu na Ziemi wystąpią bardziej ekstremalne warunki pogodowe, takie jak utrzymujące się ekstremalne warunki pogodowe w lecie na północnych szerokościach geograficznych.

Weather is the current state of the atmosphere at a specific time and place. It is temporary and changes from one location to another. Weather is shaped by the interaction of the sun, atmosphere, hydrosphere, and geosphere.

Solar radiation reaches Earth and interacts with water and land. These surfaces release that energy as thermal radiation, or heat, which warms the air above them. Some of that heat escapes back into space, but some is trapped by atmospheric gases. This heat retention is called the greenhouse effect, and greenhouse gases hold more heat than other gases.

Warm air is less dense than cold air, so it rises. As it rises into areas of lower atmospheric pressure, it cools, becomes denser, and falls again. This movement creates convection circulation, which helps move heat through the atmosphere.

Daily weather is measured using six main factors: temperature, atmospheric pressure, wind, humidity, precipitation, and cloudiness. Meteorologists track these conditions and use past observations to predict short-term weather changes. Atmospheric pressure is the weight of the air above us. High pressure is often linked to cooler temperatures and clear skies, while low pressure is often linked to warmer weather and storms. A rise or drop in pressure can help weather forecasters decide whether to expect sunshine or bring an umbrella.

Extreme weather events include heat waves, cold waves, hurricanes, tornadoes, droughts, and floods. These events can happen suddenly, so they are harder to predict than day-to-day weather. Scientists describe them using historical records for a specific place. Research shows that human-caused climate change has increased the frequency and intensity of some daily temperature and precipitation extremes. Climate models also suggest more extreme weather in the future, including persistent summer extremes in northern latitudes.
