Włókna pośrednie zawierające keratynę są połączone z tą płytką za pośrednictwem integryn alfa sześć, beta czterech i innych białek, takich jak BP230 i BP180.
Na powierzchni ECM integryny wiążą lamininę, glikoproteinę, która jest głównym składnikiem blaszki podstawnej.
Powstałe hemidesmosomy mogą przesyłać sygnały ECM, pomagając komórce reagować na siły mechaniczne i zmieniać kształt, polaryzację i kierunek migracji.

Połączenia kotwiczące to kompleksy wielobiałkowe, które pomagają komórkom łączyć się z innymi komórkami i macierzą zewnątrzkomórkową. Połączenia kotwiczące znajdują się na bocznych i podstawnych powierzchniach komórek, zapewniając mocne i elastyczne połączenia. Zrosty ogniskowe często powstają w wyniku interakcji komórek z podłożami ECM, które inicjują przekazywanie sygnału poprzez kaskady kinaz i inne mechanizmy. Razem zapewniają stabilność i integralność tkanki. Istnieją trzy typy połączeń kotwiczących: desmosomy, półdesmosomy i przylegające. Desmosomy pojawiają się w postaci gęstych, symetrycznych płytek w kształcie dysku na błonie komórkowej. W tworzeniu płytki nazębnej biorą udział białka adhezyjne zwane kadherynami. Charakterystyczny wygląd wynika z białek strukturalnych znajdujących się na wewnętrznej powierzchni błony komórkowej. Półdesmosomy wyglądają jak połowa desmosomu i łączą komórki z blaszką podstawną. Choć wyglądem przypominają desmosomy, zawierają one raczej białka adhezyjne zwane integrynami niż kadheryny. Połączenia te są niezbędne do utrzymywania komórek razem. Połączenia przylegające wykorzystują kadheryny lub integryny, w zależności od tego, czy łączą się z innymi komórkami, czy z macierzą. Połączenia charakteryzują się obecnością kurczliwego białka aktyny zlokalizowanego na powierzchni cytoplazmatycznej błony komórkowej. Aktyna może łączyć izolowane plamy lub tworzyć strukturę przypominającą pasek wewnątrz komórki. Trzy połączenia kotwiczące wpływają na kształt i fałdowanie tkanki nabłonkowej. Anchoring junctions are multiprotein complexes that help cells connect to other cells and to the extracellular matrix. They sit on the lateral and basal surfaces of cells. These junctions create strong, flexible links that help maintain tissue stability and integrity.

Focal adhesions often form when cells interact with the extracellular matrix, or ECM, substrata. These contacts can start signal transduction through kinase cascades and other pathways. Together, these junctions help cells stay attached and support the structure of tissues.

There are three main types of anchoring junctions: desmosomes, hemidesmosomes, and adherens junctions. Desmosomes appear as dense, symmetrical, disc-shaped plaques on the cell membrane. Adhesion proteins called cadherins help form these plaques, and structural proteins on the inner surface of the membrane give them their distinct look.

Hemidesmosomes look like half a desmosome. They link cells to the basal lamina. Unlike desmosomes, hemidesmosomes use integrins instead of cadherins.

Adherens junctions can use cadherins or integrins, depending on whether they connect cells to other cells or to the matrix. These junctions are marked by actin, a contractile protein on the cytoplasmic side of the cell membrane. Actin may form isolated patches or a belt-like structure inside the cell.

Together, these three anchoring junctions help shape epithelial tissue and influence how it folds. They are essential for holding cells together and preserving tissue form.
