Quando um homem puxa ou empurra uma caixa, ela se move na direção horizontal. A tração ou empurrão exercido na caixa que resulta em seu movimento é conhecido como força. É uma grandeza vetorial expressa em newton.
As forças que atuam sobre os corpos podem ser categorizadas como forças externas e internas. Quando a força aplicada externamente em um corpo cria um efeito, ela é chamada de força externa, enquanto as forças de reação existentes dentro do corpo são conhecidas como forças internas.
O princípio da transmissibilidade afirma que, se o ponto de aplicação de uma força sobre um corpo muda, mas permanece na mesma linha de ação, a força resultante sobre o corpo não muda.
Considere duas forças agindo em um corpo rígido. De acordo com o princípio da transmissibilidade, o corpo permanece inalterado se as forças que atuam sobre o corpo estiverem na mesma linha de ação, mesmo agindo em pontos diferentes.
Como essas forças são iguais e opostas, sua soma é igual a zero e a força resultante no corpo permanece inalterada.

Considere a água fluindo de uma boquilha para a pá de uma turbina. Quando a água atinge a pá da turbina, ela exerce uma força que a faz mover-se na direção do fluxo. Força é um impacto que muda o movimento, a forma ou a orientação de um objeto. As forças podem ser causadas por contato físico, como um empurrar ou puxar, ou por interações não físicas, como forças magnéticas ou gravitacionais. A força é uma grandeza vetorial com magnitude e direção, e medida em Newton(N) no sistema de unidades SI. Considere um objeto com massa de 1 kg que se move para frente com uma aceleração de 1m/s 2. Nesse caso, a força aplicada ao objeto é igual a 1 N.

Na mecânica, as forças externas e as forças internas são dois tipos de forças que atuam em um corpo rígido, causando efeitos externos e internos. Force changes the motion, shape, or orientation of an object. A flowing stream of water can push on a turbine vane and make it move in the direction of the flow. In mechanics, force is treated as a vector quantity, which means it has both magnitude and direction. It is measured in newtons, or N, in the SI unit system.

Forces can act through direct contact or without contact. A push or pull is a contact force. Magnetic and gravitational forces are examples of non-contact interactions. For an object with a mass of 1 kg that accelerates at 1 m/s2, the applied force is 1 N.

When a rigid body is under load, mechanics separates the effects into external forces and internal forces. External forces produce the reactive forces that the body exerts on its surroundings. These can include body weight, forces applied by people, and frictional forces. Internal effects are the stresses and deformations that develop inside the material.

A bracket loaded by an external force shows both kinds of effects. The foundation and bolts react to the force on the bracket. At the same time, internal stresses and deformations spread through the bracket material. These internal forces depend on the material properties and the shape of the body.

The principle of transmissibility explains what happens when the point of application of a force moves along the same line of action. If the force stays on that line, the resultant force on a rigid body does not change. Two equal forces on a rigid body can therefore be treated as a single equivalent force when they act along the same line of action.
