Um corpo rígido não sofre nenhuma deformação sob a influência de forças externas.
Considere um carrossel submetido a uma força externa F a uma distância radial perpendicular r, que resulta no momento de uma força em torno do ponto O.
Se várias forças atuam no carrossel, a condição de equilíbrio é obtida quando a soma de todas as forças externas que atuam sobre ele é zero.
A outra condição de equilíbrio afirma que a soma de todos os momentos em torno do ponto O deve ser igual a zero.
Quando o momento é medido no ponto A, ele pode ser expresso como a soma do momento no ponto O e o produto vetorial da distância perpendicular e da força aplicada.
Essas condições garantem que o corpo não sofra nenhum movimento de translação ou rotação em equilíbrio estático.
Apenas forças externas são consideradas aqui, uma vez que as forças internas dentro do corpo rígido têm a mesma magnitude e atuam em direções opostas, cancelando-se devido à terceira lei do movimento de Newton.

Conditions of Equilibrium

Equilíbrio refere-se a um estado em que um corpo rígido não está sujeito a nenhum movimento de translação ou rotação. Este estado é alcançado quando a força e o momento que atuam sobre um corpo rígido são iguais a zero. Quando o sistema de forças externas resulta em um efeito líquido equivalente a zero, o corpo rígido é considerado em equilíbrio.

Forças internas não são consideradas nas condições de equilíbrio porque ocorrem em pares iguais e opostos dentro do corpo, anulando efetivamente uma a outra. Como resultado, essas forças internas não contribuem para o movimento global ou alteração no movimento do corpo rígido. O equilíbrio é determinado pelo equilíbrio das forças externas e momentos que atuam sobre o corpo, pois eles são responsáveis por causar movimento de translação ou rotação.

As condições necessárias e suficientes para o equilíbrio podem ser determinadas ao se estabelecer a força resultante e o momento igual a zero. Rigid body equilibrium depends on a balance of external forces and moments. A rigid body is in equilibrium when it has no translational motion and no rotational motion. This happens when the net force and the net couple acting on the body are both zero.

Internal forces are not used when checking equilibrium. These forces act in equal and opposite pairs inside the body, so they cancel each other. Because of that, they do not affect the overall motion or change in motion of the rigid body.

The external forces and moments determine whether the body stays balanced. These are the forces that can cause translation or rotation. The necessary and sufficient conditions for equilibrium are found by setting the resultant force and the resultant moment equal to zero.

The vector equations for equilibrium can also be written as six scalar equations. Each force and moment is resolved into rectangular components. This means the external force components in the x, y, and z directions must balance, and the moments about the x, y, and z axes must also balance.

To write equilibrium equations for a rigid body, first identify all forces acting on it. Then draw a free-body diagram. The reactions from supports must also be included. Correctly identifying each reaction helps solve unknown forces and reactions in structures.
