Introduction to Structures

Uma estrutura é um sistema de membros interconectados, como vigas, escoras, juntas, etc., projetado para suportar ou transferir forças e suportar com segurança as cargas que atuam sobre eles.

Uma estrutura é definida como um sistema de membros interconectados projetados para suportar ou transferir forças e resistir com sucesso às cargas que atuam sobre eles. As forças internas de uma estrutura podem ser determinadas decompondo a estrutura e analisando os diagramas de corpo livre dos membros individuais ou de uma combinação de membros. Isso ajuda a entender o comportamento dos elementos estruturais e garantir que a estrutura seja estável e possa suportar as cargas sujeitas a ela.

Existem três categorias principais de estruturas: treliças, quadros e máquinas. Treliças são estruturas fixas que permanecem rígidas quando sujeitas a forças. Os membros de uma treliça são elementos retos conectados por juntas nas extremidades de cada um. Cada membro de uma treliça possui duas forças iguais e opostas atuando ao longo dele. Treliças são comumente usadas em pontes, telhados e torres.

Quadros são estruturas rígidas e fixas projetadas para suportar cargas. Os membros em quadros podem sofrer tanto forças axiais quanto momentos fletores. No entanto, pelo menos um membro de um quadro sempre possui três ou mais forças atuando sobre ele, e pelo menos uma dessas forças não está dirigida ao longo do eixo do membro. Quadros são comumente usados em edifícios e estruturas industriais, como guindastes e pórticos.

Máquinas são estruturas com partes móveis projetadas para transmitir e modificar os efeitos das forças. Elas envolvem mecanismos que permitem o movimento ou a transformação de forças. Pelo menos um membro multi-força deve estar presente em uma máquina. Máquinas são comumente usadas em ferramentas, como prensas, e veículos, como carros e aviões.

Structures are systems of interconnected members that support or transfer forces and handle the loads placed on them. Engineers can find the internal forces in a structure by breaking it apart and drawing free-body diagrams for individual members or groups of members. This helps show how structural elements behave and how the whole system stays stable under load.

There are three main categories of structures: trusses, frames, and machines. Trusses are stationary structures that stay rigid when force is applied. Their members are straight and connected at the ends by joints, and each member has two equal and opposite forces acting along it. Trusses are commonly used in bridges, roofs, and towers.

Frames are also rigid, stationary structures that support loads. Members in a frame may experience axial forces and bending moments. In addition, at least one member in a frame has three or more forces acting on it, and at least one of those forces is not along the member’s axis. Frames are commonly found in buildings and industrial structures such as cranes and gantries.

Machines are structures with moving parts that transmit and modify the effects of forces. They use mechanisms that allow motion or change how force acts. At least one multi-force member should be present in a machine. Common examples include presses, cars, and planes.
