O momento fletor é definido como a reação desenvolvida em um elemento estrutural quando submetido a uma força externa, fazendo com que o elemento se dobre.
Quando um elemento estrutural sofre flexão, ele cria forças normais de compressão na parte superior e forças normais de tração na parte inferior, resultando em um par que determina o momento fletor do elemento.

Um momento de torção ocorre quando uma força de torção é aplicada a um corpo ao longo de seu eixo transversal, fazendo com que a seção torça.

As forças internas e os momentos de casal que atuam em uma seção transversal de uma viga podem ser representados por seus componentes x, y e z.

Momentos de flexão e torção são dois conceitos fundamentais na engenharia estrutural. Eles desempenham um papel importante para entender o comportamento dos materiais e estruturas sob diferentes condições de carregamento.

A reação desenvolvida em um elemento estrutural quando submetido a uma força externa causa o elemento a se curvar. Quando um elemento estrutural se curva para cima, ele cria forças normais compressivas na parte superior e forças normais de tração na parte inferior, resultando em um par que determina o momento de flexão do elemento. Esse momento é calculado levando em consideração a distância do ponto de interesse até a linha de ação da força e a magnitude da força.

A flexão de uma régua fixada em uma extremidade é um exemplo de um momento de flexão. Quando uma força é aplicada perpendicularmente para baixo na régua próximo à extremidade sem suporte, ela induz uma curvatura na régua. A força aplicada cria um momento em relação à extremidade fixa, resultando na curvatura ou deformação da régua. Nesse cenário, a régua experimentará tanto forças compressivas quanto forças de tração. O lado superior da régua, voltado para longe da força aplicada, estará sob tensão. O lado inferior, voltado para a força aplicada, estará sob compressão.

Um momento de torção ocorre quando uma força de torção é aplicada a um corpo ao longo de seu eixo transversal ou longitudinal, causando a torção da seção. Essa força de torção cria uma resistência interna dentro do material, opondo-se à força aplicada. O momento de torção é calculado como o produto da força de torção e a distância do ponto de interesse até a linha de ação da força.

Ao girar um parafuso em um material usando uma chave de fenda ou furadeira, um momento de torção é aplicado ao parafuso à medida que ele gira e encontra resistência do material. A força de torção gerada pela chave de fenda ou furadeira faz com que o parafuso gire, e a resistência do material cria uma força oponente, que gera um momento de torção.

Bending and torsional moments describe how materials respond to force. These ideas are important in structural engineering because they help explain how beams, rulers, and screws change shape under load. A moment depends on both the size of the force and the distance from the point of interest to the force’s line of action.

A bending moment forms when an external force makes a structural element bend. If the element bends upward, the top side is in compression and the bottom side is in tension. These opposite forces create a couple that determines the bending moment. A ruler fixed at one end shows this effect when a downward force is applied near the free end.

In that ruler example, the force acts perpendicular to the ruler and causes it to deform around the fixed end. The side facing away from the applied force is in tension, and the side facing toward the force is in compression. This makes the bending moment easy to see in a simple everyday object.

A torsional moment happens when a twisting force is applied along a body’s transverse or longitudinal axis. The material resists that twist, so an internal force develops inside it. A screwdriver or power drill turning a screw shows torsion in action. As the screw rotates and meets resistance from the material, the twisting force and the opposing resistance create the torsional moment.
